Mary Kate (Howell) Hodges, age 102 of Sevierville, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012. She was the widow of Theron Hodges, former Superintendent of Sevier County Schools and State Director of the Tennessee Teachers Retirement System. Ms. Hodges was a member of First Baptist Church in Sevierville, a 1931 graduate of Carson-Newman College and a member of its Steeple Society, the Manthano Club, and the Sevier County Retired Teachers Association, having been in educational work for many years in both Nashville and Sevier County. She was a supporter of Alzheimer’s research and served on the Board of Directors of the Robert F. Thomas Foundation for several years.
In additional to her husband, she is preceded in death by her father Cole B. Howell; mother, Lucy Moore Howell; brother, Joe N. Howell; sister-in-law, Mary Lester Howell; brother, C. Bryan Howell, Jr; sister-in-law, Katherine Howell; sister, Florence A. Wallis ; brother-in-law, Carl Wallis; and her aunt and uncle Maude and Joe Snyder who raised her after the death of her mother; niece Jenny Howell-Jukes.
She is survived by her niece and husband Cheryl Ann and Doug Ryerkerk; nephew, Cole B. Howell, III and wife Sherry; niece, Margaret Ann Gehring and husband Bobby; great-nephews, Jeremy Zimmerman and wife Tara and their children Kailee and Brinlee Zimmerman; Luke and Benjamin Ryerkerk; special friend, Brenda Phillips and several cousins.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Gleaner’s Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church in Nashville, the Manthano Club and the Sevier County Retired Teachers Association.
Graveside service and interment 10 AM Thursday in Boyd’s Creek Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Hyder and Rev. Scott Carter officiating. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Wednesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
