Dot O. Headrick, 79, passed away unexpectedly on February 6, 2005 at his home in Newport News, VA.
Dot was born on September 11, 1925, in Sevier County, TN, the second son of Oscar and Lucy Headrick. He was raised in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee and served with the first Marine Division during World War II in the South Pacific where he was awarded the purple heart for wounds suffered in combat in the bloody battle for the Island of Pelelieu. He recovered from his wounds and did yet another overseas tour in China where he participated in the disarmament of the Japanese Army in China. He was very proud of his service to his country.
He married the love of his life, Blanche O. Headrick, in 1946 and later moved to Virginia where he raised his family of five children. In 1955, he began working for the C&O Railroad where he enjoyed a long career. He was a longtime member of the American Legion and was the son of a charter member. His many friends at Post 25 in Newport News, will surely miss him. He was also a longtime member of the Newport News Moose Lodge, where he had many dear friends and acquaintances. He received much support from his friends at these organizations since the passing of his dear wife Blanche three years ago.
He was preceded in death by a son, Denny Headrick.
Survivors include his dear daughter, Donna Gail Lintelman of Terre Haute, IN; his three sons, Ronnie Headrick of Hampton, VA, David Headrick of Houston, TX, Roger Headrick of Poquoson, VA; his dear brother, George Headrick of Sevier County, TN; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will receive tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted 1p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 9 at Parklawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank Emmitt and Dottie Newton. Emmitt was always a great help to our parents in their later years. They are dear neighbors.
Dot was a lover of life and like many of his generation, "The Greatest Generation", a man who could be depended on. He will be missed by his dear family and many friends.
