- [S106] The Mountain Press, 2 Apr 2009.
An informal visitation for family and friends to celebrate the life of Cortez resident James Hubert "Jim" Galyon will be held on Saturday, April 4, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Lifeway Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 601 N. Dolores Road, Cortez, Colo.
Jim was born June 11, 1938, in Seymour, Tenn., the son of James Roy and Edna Goldie (Blair) Galyon. He passed away at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at the age of 70.
Jim moved to Montezuma Creek, Utah, from his native Tennessee in 1957 to work for his uncle Frank Blair, owner of Blair Electric. He so loved the Southwestern Colorado region that after moving back to Tennessee and Michigan for a few years, he eventually returned to make Cortez his permanent home. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching western movies. He loved collecting cowboy memorabilia and spending time visiting with his friends.
Surviving Jim are his three children, James Steven Galyon, Amy Kristen Galyon and Jennifer Marie Balowski and husband Thomas, all of Warren, Mich.; six grandchildren; and his siblings, Jack Galyon and wife, Shirley of Knoxville, Tenn., Gail Bishop and husband, Jack of Kodak, Tenn., Mac Galyon and wife, Ann of Borger, Texas, and Louie Galyon and wife, Rita of Cortez. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins are also left to mourn his passing.
