Howard Twain Finchum, age 83, of Newport passed away at home Sunday, August 23, 2015 surrounded by his wife and family. He was born August 18, 1932 in Sevier County to his parents, Hix and Bertha Finchum. Twain proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Good Conduct Medal. Twain had an immense love for family and his horses. He could be often found in a saddle with a smile on his face. Twain had a passion for the outdoors and especially enjoyed camping and gardening. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hix and Bertha Finchum; brothers, R.C. Finchum, Chucky Finchum; father-in-law, J.T. "Humpy" Quinton; and niece, Cindy Wilson.
Twain is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Virginia Quinton Finchum; son, Terry Finchum and wife, Michelle; step-son, Mike Poe and wife, Jeanette; grandsons, Zachary Finchum and Tyler Finchum; brother, Burnett Finchum and wife, Vickie; sisters, Ann Derrick and husband, Hal, and Golda Coleman; brother-in-law, Jim Quinton and wife, Vivian; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jerry McNabb, Kip and Ruby Smith, and Bobby Caughran.
Memorial Service 7PM Thursday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Chaplain Colonel Edward J. Young officiating. Family and friends will meet 10AM Friday in Burchfield Methodist Cemetery for a graveside service and military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #104. The family will receive friends from 5-7PM Thursday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
