Mr. Edward Eugene "Gene" Haynes, age 77, of Newport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 27, 2009.
He was the former owner of Gene & Polly's Restaurant in Newport.
He was a member of Centerview Freewill Baptist Church.
A retired United States Navy veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Harmon Haynes and Mary Ethel Farr Haynes and two half-brothers Kenneth Haynes and Junior Fife.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Polly Haynes of the home; two daughters Joy Evans of White Pine and Jerry Kozuch of GA; son and daughter-in-law Joe and Christy Haynes of Dandridge; grandchildren Dalton Evans of White Pine, Robbie Sifford, Keith Sifford, and Misty Wyre, all of GA; Ethan Haynes and Harper Haynes of Dandridge; 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brothers Randall Haynes of Dandridge and Richard Haynes of Newport; sister Virginia Walker Ezell of Knoxville.
Additional survivors include several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a thank-you to a very special and loving niece Cindy Tipton of Johnson City.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 29, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. in the Costner-Maloy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Bryan and Rev. Jerry Williams officiating.
Family and friends will meet Friday, October 30, 2009, at 9:45 a.m. at Union Cemetery for the 10:00 a.m. interment. U. S. Navy Military Honors will be provided at the graveside.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Costner-Maloy Funeral Home.
