Harry B. Cate, Sr. 81, of Pigeon Forge went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 26, 2003. Harry began his glorious journey at Pigeon Forge Care and Rehabilitation Center.
He was a long-time member of the Middle Creek United Methodist Church, but in later years he attended the Pigeon Forge United Methodist Church. During Harry’s younger years he served his country in the United States Army during WWII in the European Theatre. Harry was a member of the 25 Year Club of Alcoa and retired from there after 42 years of faithful service.
Harry was preceded in death by his mother Rebecca Brown Cate and his father and step-mother William Bruce and Sally Blalock Cate.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Mable Icelona Cate; children, Carol Huntley and husband Paul of Charlotte, NC, Harry B. Cate, Jr. and wife Emily of Knoxville, William R. Cate and fiancée Elizabeth Clark of Conyers, GA; grandchildren, Michael Leyva, Barbara Leyva both of Charlotte, NC, Victor Kenneth Leyva of Sugar Hill, GA, Chloe Cate and William Cate both of Athens, TN, Cathy Clark of Conyers, GA; 2 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Lou Cusick and husband Ben of Sevierville. Besides the immediate family, the many friends that knew and loved him will miss Harry.
Service will be 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2003 at Rawlings Funeral Chapel with Revs. Jerry Page, Keith Knight and Bill Maples officiating. Interment will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29 at Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 28 at Rawlings Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Harry’s memory to either Middle Creek United Methodist Church or Pigeon Forge United Methodist Church.
