A Seymour man died after being involved in a single-vehicle crash Friday morning.
Alan McCarter, 41, was driving his 1989 Dodge Ram van near White School Road when Sevier County Sheriff’s Department deputies say he apparently lost control, drove off the road and hit an embankment.
Deputies said he died at the scene. They also said it remains unclear whether McCarter was wearing his seat belt in the crash, but the impact partially threw the man out of the van.
The sheriff’s department will continue its investigation, and have yet to comment if alcohol was involved. Witnesses at the scene after the accident report the vehicle contained several empty containers of alcohol.

Patrol: Van left roadway
A Seymour man whose body was found in a car off Chapman Highway Friday morning apparently had been in a fatal accident that night, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Passersby noticed a vehicle in a creek about 20 feet off the road Friday morning, and called authorities.
When authorities arrived to investigate, they found the body of 41-year-old Alan McCarter in the driver's seat of a white Dodge van, said Patrolman Jackie Bailey of the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
It appeared McCarter had been driving south on Chapman Highway when he left the right side of the road and struck an embankment head-on before the van came to rest in the creek, Bailey said.
"He left the road, and it was a fatality," Bailey said.
There was no evidence that another vehicle was involved in the wreck, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol is not aware of any witnesses, he said.
