Gene Coffelt, age 89 of Sevierville, died early on the morning of August 26, 2009, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was the son of Mel Coffelt and Ann Fox. He spent WWII stationed in the South Pacific on the repair ship Argon. He came home from the war and, together with his brother-in-law Gene Atchley, started an auto-body repair shop on Jenkins Hill. After that business was sold, he worked for Newman and Pemberton trucking company for 25 years.
He is survived by his son Jim Coffelt and daughter-in-law Tonja Coffelt, sister Helen Blalock Ownby and her grandson Scott Blalock and his wife Melissa, and Scott’s sister Alison and her husband Tim Ford. He is also survived by a nephew Richard Atchley and his wife Carol and their children Gail and Rick, and niece Sheila Rutledge and her husband Johnny and their children Mark and Amy.
Funeral service 7 PM Saturday in the East Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Ely officiating. Family and friends will meet 2 PM Sunday in Boyds Creek Cemetery for graveside service and interment. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Saturday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville.
