January 31, 1943 - December 15, 2017
Sonja E. (Baker) Campbell, age 74, went home to meet her Lord and all her loved ones on Friday December 15, 2017. She was born and raised in Miser Station and grew up with her 4 sisters, The Baker Girls. Sonja was a 1961 graduate of Friendsville High School and graduated Baptist Hospital Nursing School in 1964. She began a long time nursing career starting at Queens Hospital in Hawaii and worked in the surgical department at Baptist Hospital, Knoxville. She was also the Director of Nursing at Athens Community Hospital, ALCOA in the medical department and retired from UT Hospital surgical department. Sonja was a long time member of Knob Creek Baptist Church and The Ladies Joy Sunday School Class. She volunteered with RAMUSA and Cross Food Ministries in Seymour. She loved to drive anywhere at any time. Her sisters always said that her middle name was, “Go!” Sonja and Ted traveled to almost all 50 states. She thought of all her friends as close companions. Many hearts will have an empty space now but we will always remember her with much love. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Helen Baker, and Anna Mae Baker.
She is survived by her husband, Ted C. Campbell; children, Shane Hall (Tami Housley), Carroll (Tammy) Campbell, and Teddy Keith Campbell; grandchildren, Alyse (Robert) Becquet, Shanea (Eric) Burnett, Chris Campbell, Dustin Campbell, Hailey Campbell, Haylee Henry, and Braden Henry; great-grandchildren, Darien and Raena Becquet, Michelle Burnett, Colt Campbell, and McKinlee Campbell; sisters, Gail (Les) Shope, Donna Parton, Vickie McDowell, and Kay Baker; aunts, Bobbie (Glenn) Palmer, Shirley Tipton, and Dorothy Linginfelter; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many good friends that she enjoyed shopping, traveling, and having lunch with.
In lieu of flowers, donations or personally volunteering one’s time to either Remote Area Medical (RAM) or to Cross Ministries, 406 Boyd’s Creek Hwy, Seymour, TN 37865 would fulfill Sonja’s wishes.
Funeral service 7 PM Wednesday in Atchley’s Seymour Chapel with Rev. Terry Parton officiating. Interment 11 AM Thursday in Knob Creek Cemetery. Campbells to celebrate 25th anniversary Sunday
Ted and Sonja (Baker) Campbell, of Seymour, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Knob Creek Baptist Church, Seymour.
They request that gifts be omitted.
The couple were married March 8, 1986, in Seymour. The Rev. Ben Hunt officiated.
Their family includes children Shane Hall, of Maryville, Carroll and Tammy Campbell, of Seymour, and Teddy Keith Campbell, of Pigeon Forge. They have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Campbell is retired from ALCOA Inc. Mrs. Campbell is retired from the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where she was a registered nurse.
Mr. Campbell raises beef cattle. Mrs. Campbell enjoys collecting Hallmark ornaments. They both enjoy traveling and have visited all but four of the 50 states.
