A traffic accident off Highway 25/70 on Friday led to the arrest of a Cosby man for possession of moonshine whiskey.
Fount Baxter, 84, 331 Rocky Flats Road, Cosby, was charged on Friday with transporting untaxed alcoholic beverage after his 1986 Chevrolet was struck at the intersection of Clevenger Cut-off Road and West Highway 25/70 by a 2000 Buick, driven by Edna M. Samples, 56, 1955 Holt Town Road, reported Newport Police Patrolman Justin Vinson. Vinson told the Plain Talk that, while investigating the accident, he noticed a stream of liquid pouring from Baxter's car, after which he asked Baxter to open the trunk.
"I saw several boxes of quart jars-92 jars in all-in the trunk, and two of them had broken in the accident," said Vinson. "I could smell alcohol, and it turned out to be moonshine whiskey."
