Sarah C. Styles , 84, a resident of Sunnyslope for the past 34 years, died Friday morning (Feb. 5, 1999) in the Highline Convalescent Center.
She was born Sarah C. Barnes on March 14, 1914 to Henry and Rutha (Bright) Barnes in Greenbrier, Sevier County, TN, where she grew up and received her early education.
On Jan. 16, 1930 she married Garland B. Styles in Sevier County, TN and in 1953 they moved to Peshastin. In 1956 to Entiat and later to Manson and in 1965 they made their home in Sunnyslope.
Sarah was a devoted Christian and was a member of the Eastmont Baptist Church. She loved her home with its view overlooking Wenatchee, her beautiful flower garden, vegetable garden and feeding the quail and birds. Her home was always open to family and friends whether for visits or a meal, she always made one feel welcome. Her family was her greatest joy and her interest and pride in them extended to all members of her family each was special to Sarah . She was one who didn't want to hear criticism of people when someone was frustrated. Sarah usually replied, "Let's not talk bad about them, we'll just pray for them and love them, and we'll hope the Lord will take care of it."
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Ernie Suttles of East Wenatchee. Five sons and daughters-in-law, Walter and JoAnne Styles of Sevierville, TN; Herbert "Phillip" and Pat Styles of Portland, OR; Ralph and Judy Styles of Malaga; Charles and Maxine Styles of Plain and Robert and Pam Styles of Monroe, FIve sisters, Mary Thomas of Cashmere; Hazel Rolen and Ethell Harrell both of Sevierville, TN and Letha Rolen and Myrtle Floyd both of Wenatchee. One brother, Troy Barnes of Leavenworth, 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Garland on Feb. 3, 1979; two daughters, Dorothy and Lola May; sister, Lona Rayfield; three brothers, Ellis Barnes, Willie Barnes and Wayne Barnes.
A funeral service of commemoration to Celebrate the Life of SARAH C. STYLES , will be conducted at 11:30 Monday morning, Feb. 8, 1999, in the Eastmont Baptist Church, with Pastor Bob Bauer, officiating and Pastor Lawton Griffith, assisting. The casket will remain closed following the service. The family will receive friends wishing to make visitation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Monday at the church. Memorials may be made in her name to the Eastmont Baptist Church Building Fund, 330 N. Lyle Ave., East Wenatchee, WA 98802. Interment will be in the Peshastin Cemetery.
Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
