Weirnell Underwood, age 89, of Knoxville, went to be with his Heavenly Father on February 22, 2013. He was a member of Meridian Baptist Church. He was a proud member of WWII and witnessed the raising of the flag at Iowa Jima. After serving in WWII, Weirnell went to work for L&N Railroad. He worked for R.T. Clapp and retired from TVK Automotive Warehouse. After retirement, he continued to work at Sevier Heights Baptist Church Day Care, Mooreland Heights Elementary School and was employed at Dollywood for 13 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Nellie Underwood, brother, Ray Underwood, sister, Helen Ailey, and mother-in-law, Verna Ruth Moon.

Wife of 66 years: Beulah Moon Underwood
Son: Ronald Underwood and wife, Marty Austin
Daughter: Angela Underwood
Sisters: Iva Grace Eledge and husband, J.S.; Mary Ellen Cate, Anna Horner, and Janice Loveday
Sister-in-laws: Irene Ownby and husband, Dewey; Mildred Otis Sampley

Funeral service 7PM Monday at Meridian Baptist Church with Pastor Dana Fachman officiating. Interment 1 PM Tuesday in Highland South Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 104. The family will receive friends 4:30 PM to 6:45 PM Monday at Meridian Baptist Church.
