    Notes:

    In Blount County the Delzells were members of the Big Spring and Pistol Creek congregation of the Seceder Church, a very strict branch of the Church of Scotland. When slavery agitation became intense in the years before the War, many families from this church including the Delzells emigrated en masse to Illinois.
