  1. 1.  George Washington Mateer was born Abt 1828, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania; died Aft 6 Jun 1894.

    Notes:

    The 1850 census of Franklin Township, Armstrong County, shows George W. Mateer
    aged 21 living in the household of his father John Mateer. In 1860 George W.
    Mateer aged 32 years was a farmer in Wayne County, Illinois, in Range 5 South,
    Township 3 East; his household included a wife Margaret E. aged 28, two sons
    Ira G. aged 4 and John R. aged 2, also E. Rose, a carpenter aged 26 and John
    Montgomery aged 18, a farm laborer.

    It is not clear when or under what circumstances Washington Mateer returned to
    Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. There was another Washington Mateer who bought
    a lot in Kittanning Boro in 1843, which lot was sold in 1905 by Washington
    Mateer and wife Sarah.

    Notes:

    On 12 May 1894 Samuel Mateer was granted Administration on the Estate of
    William J. Mateer of Mansfield, Ohio, "the father Washing Msteer having filed
    his renunciation." Bond was for $400 with J. H. Mateer and Findley Wolf as
    sureties. The only asset in this estate was $190, a legacy due from the estate
    of John Graham deceased.
