    Notes:

    Glen McMahan loved farming and started as a child when he was too small to lift
    the yoke over the oxens' head. At twelve he started plowing with a tractor. He
    and his brother, Wilbur, were the first farmers in Sevier County to raise red
    burley tobacco. In 1939 he bought the first wheat combine in Sevier County.

    Upon receiving a degree in agriculture from the University of Tennessee in
    1931, Glenn began a long career as a county agricultural and civic leader. He
    helped organize the Soil Conservation District of Sevier County and served as
    supervisor and president during the years 1954-1963. He helped organize the
    Sevier Farmers Co-op and served as one of the first directors as well as
    Vice-president. He served on the County Court Argiculture Committee and the
    Farm and Home Loan Association Committee.

    Glen served as a director of the Sevier County Farm Bureau for 25 years and as
    president from 1948-1950 and 1957-1971. He helped organize the Sevier County
    Pig Sale, and was the first bookkeeper

    Born on what is now Ernest McMahan Road. Elizabeth graduated from Sevier County
    High School in 1938, and the University of Tennessee with a BS in Home
    Economics in 1942. She went on to graduate from the Philadelphia School of
    Occupational Therapy (University of Pennsylvania) in 1944. For 43 years she
    worked as a registered occupational therapist for several private hospitals,
    the Dpartment of the Army, and the Veterans Administration. Upon retiring in
    1988, she returned home to Sevier County, Tennessee where in 1994 she was
    active in many organizations.
