Ralph D. Shelton, 69, of English Street, in Newport, was reportedly struck and killed by this Chevy pickup truck as it headed east on Interstate 40 on Friday, Jan. 27, at about 6:30 p.m., according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The Hill Top apartments of the 1940s is now a vacant building. In 1946 it provided the first home for Quinton and Wilda (Bill) Parrott, who were married that year. The apartments were owned by Judson Shults, a brother to Dr. Glenn C. Shults.

For over 50 years, Tommy Lillard Jr. has been attending Newport's First Free Will Baptist Church off Jimtown Road. He is a Bogard community native and at age 70 has gone to church most all of his life, rarely missing a Sunday morning service.
