Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Silvester Proffitt was born 1700; died 1767, Goochland, Virginia.

    Notes:

Silvester Proffitt joined the Jacobite rebels during the 1715 rebellion against England. The English assaulted their town 14 November 1715 and forced them to surrender. As punishment, he was put aboard the ship, the "Elizabeth and Ann", commanded by Edward Trafford, which left Liverpool, England 28 July 1716 bound for Virginia and Jamaca with 128 prisoners.

No record has been found yet of the person to whom silvester was indentured, but he settled in Goochland County (formerly St. James Northam Parrish). Silvester was able to purchase land along the South Branch of Lickinghole Creek.

On 19 March 1738, Silvester sold 150 acres of land (part of 300 acres) to Mary Bashett and her son John Tuggle for eleven pounds lawful money of Virginia. Then on 19 March 1743, Silvester bought Messuage Plantation containing 100 acres from Martin Ducan for ten pounds.

Records also show that Silvester worked for other men and was paid in tobacco: May 1744, 150 pounds tobacco from Charles Toney for six days work; March 1746, 400 pounds tobacco from Michael Holland for fifteen days work; August 1761, 225 pounds tobacco from James Gresham for nine days work.

On 7 April 1763 Joseph Gresham of Albemarle County bought 100 acres of land from Silvester Prophet for twenty pounds.
