    Dear Papa and Ma,

    I will write to you to let you know that I am improving. My cough is worse but
    I have quit chilling. I taken fresh cold at the wells. I would like to hear
    from you. We had a card from brother John. He said he had not heard from you
    since we left. Had a card from Dr. Loyd a letter from John Sep they told us of
    the storm had a rather hard storm and rain on the night of the 17th. Laws said
    it was the worst looking cloud he ever saw I did not get much damp. We came
    through graham ask for Fayett Tanksley they said to go by but the country is so
    rough and Laws had not saw Poke fro so long and they did not want to go to poks
    if the went to Fayetts so I did not insist. Papa I am afraid I have scroffolo
    of the lungs my rite lung hurts me so of a night hardly breath when in a wagon
    do very well throught the day Papa and ma I do with you could see how I have
    improved Laws boiled 13 gallons of water down to one go a 2 oz bottle of white
    thick suff out of the bottom of the kettle it is said to core sores when
    whenmixt with lard if my lungs don't get any better we will make our home a
    vinyard next year. I want you to go with us one old man that could not walk
    had taken 7 baths when we left he could walk very well with a stick. I have
    saw any country I like as well as home I like Jack County better than any I
    I have saw. Poke has more sheep than ever saw in one flock he had 1048 poke
    has he finest early peaches I ever saw I have had all the ripe peaches I wanted
    ever since we struck Denton Country I think we will go to Haskle I am getting
    tired unless the roads was better I never saw such rough country it is to rough
    for me I hope this will find yo both well and up with your crop our love to you
    both Your loving child

    P.S. Walter has cut two teeth he is doing very well we got to Poks last
    evening I go to the kitchen to eat I had my hair cut off to day It was
    nearly all come out this is a pretty place but the ground is covered with rocks
    Willey is hurding sheep to day So no at Presant

    Notes:

    Andrew hauled freight from Jefferson City to Chandler and farmed. He also
    donated land for the Methodist Church in Royse City and this caused hard
    feelings in the family because of the moving of the bodies.
