Generation: 2

  1. 2.  Johan Velten "Valentine" Shultz was born Abt 1710/1715, , Germany (son of Heinrich Christoff Shultz and Sophe Margaretta); died Bef 16 Nov 1745.

    Notes:

There is a Valentinus Schultz born about 1715 of Landsberg, Ostprs, Preussen son of Valentin and Maria (Hempler) Schultz. This Maria and Valentin also had a son Friedlieb born 24 August 1721 in Landsberg, Ostprs, Preussen.

During his youth in Germany, Valentine Shultz learned the art of farming, and it continued to be his lifetime occupation.

Valentine Shultz and his wife Elizabeth traveled to Rotterdam, Holland from Germany. Here they boarded the ship "Pennsilvania Merchant" at Rotterdam, Holland and then traveled to Dover, England for the trip to America prior to Monday, 10 September 1731. On this day, they arrived in Philadelphia, Philidelphia County, Pennsylvania according to the ship lists. On that day, they took the oath of allegiance to the province of Pennsylvania and became naturalized citizens.

Shortly after their arrival, Valentine Shultz and his wife Elizabeth traveled to the "frontier" on the west side of the Susquehanna River in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Today, this is in York County, Pennsylvania.

Valentine Shultz and his second wife Maria Eva Stocker lived in Manchester Township, Lancaster County (now York), Pennsylvania. They were members of Christ Lutheran Church in the town of York. He was recorded among the contributors who gave money to purchase the blank record book for the Church.

The following data about Valentine and Maria Eva was found in the church record books:

He was one of the god-parents for Anna Margaretha Loffel, daughter of Johan Christian Loffel on Thursday, 22 May 1738

He and Maria Eva were god-parents for Maria Eva Hanspacher, daughter of Johan Jorg Hanspacher on Sunday, 18 September 1740

His wife Maria Eva was one of the god-parents for Maria Barbara Mang, daughter of Gottried Mang on Saturday, 24 November 1742.

On Tuesday, 16 November 1745 in Manchester Township, Lancaster County (now York), Pennsylvania intestate records indicate that Valentine Shultz died without a will.

Sometime during the month of November 1745, the Orphans Court of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania appointed Maria Eva Stocker Shultz, widow of Valentine Shultz, as adminstratrix for her husband's estate. The Orphans Court for the said county also appointed Charles Johns and George Bryden as appraiser for the said estate.

On Tuesday, 16 November 1745, the appraisers, Charles Johns and George Bryden Gross made the inventory on the personal and real estate of Valentine Shultz. This inventory was filed at the Register's office in Lancaster on Monday, 25 July 1746.

On Friday, 2 September 1746, Maria Eva Stocker Shultz, administratix for the estate of Valentine Shultz, filed claims with the Register's office in Lancaster. The administration account was drawn up on that day ... it showed
that she had 90.5.11 from her husband's estate. This money was to be distributed among his legal heirs at the discretion of the Orphans Court of Lancaster County, but no record of it being carried out at that time has been found.

Since York County was created in 1749 from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the Orphans Court of York county took the responsibility in administering the deceased's estate. On Friday, 27 March 1750, the Orphans Court of York County appointed George Swope and Henry Shultz as "Guardians for Peter, Valentine, Martin, Eva, and Christian, minor orphans of the late Valentine Shultz." It is most likely that each one received their share in their father's estate upon reaching legal age.
