    Notes:

Alexander was eleven or twelve years old at the time of his mother's second marriage. He was his mother's favorite child and when she gave him the family farm it caused an uproar in the rest of the Stinnett family. The other children later caused trouble over this and it must have gone on for quite a while. There are court records where they paid monetary sums to several of his children to cover their inheritance from John. As late as 1874, Elizabeth appeared in court and swore she had made and signed a deed for fifty acres of land to Alexander in 1866.

From the Minutes of the New Salem Baptist Church:
"...Took up a case against Brother Alexander Stinnett for fornication and finding no proof he was acquitted for the same."

  2. 9.  Elizabeth Wilkerson was born 1794, South Carolina.

    Notes:

    Housewife
    Baptist
    Buried in Henry Cemetery.

It was said that "Old Betts" as she was called, was ruler of the roost and a hellcat on wheels. It is believed that Betts was married first to a McKissick and he was killed in the Indian wars about 1812. She was expecting a child at that time. Alexander was eleven or twelve at the time of his mother's marriage to John Stinnett.

From the minutes of the New Salem Baptist Church On the fourth Saturday in April 1863; The New Salem Baptist Church of Jones Cove met in business session and brought a charge of fornication against Elizabeth Stinnett, and cited her to the next business meeting to defend herself against the charge. In the next meeting she had a witness that testified for her and she was cleared of the charge by a vote of the body present and restored to full fellowship. There was no mention who the third party was. It probably was Thomas Stinnett, a son of John by a previous marriage. He came to Tennessee and lived for a while. He was listed in the 1860 census as living in the Stinnett household. He either died or moved before the next census. There is a Thomas Stinnett buried in the Number one Henry Cemetery in Old Henry Town.

Elizabeth is not listed in the 1870 census of Sevier County, but in 1874 she made an appearance at the County Court Clerk's Office at Sevierville, Tennessee and gave a sworn statement to the clerk that she had made and signed a deed for fifty acres of land to Alexander Stinnett in 1866. She is next found living with her daughter, Margaret and Thomas Wilkerson in Wear's Valley, District No. 6, Sevier County, Tennessee. She is ninety years of age and she probably died there. No one knows where she is buried, possibly in Wear's Valley or maybe in the Stinnett Cemetery. Alexander was the favorite child and she gave or sold him the farm that belonged to John. It must have caused trouble with their other children and there was a court action over this.

    • Reference Number: 70

    Notes:

Nathaniel may be been born in Virginia as some sources list him (Dee Lansford).

In 1804 Nathaniel King and his family migrated to Tennessee from South Carolina. Nathaniel King with his wife, two sons and one daughter stayed for a few years in McMinn County, Tennessee. They were listed in the 1830 Federal Census there. The children settled in the Middle Creek and Wears Cove areas of Sevier County, Tennessee. They were listed in the 1830 Federal Census there.

Nathaniel King has an entry for 100 acres of land on the waters of Middle Creek in the Sevier County, Tennessee. This could, however, be his son Nathanial as he was married that year. Further evidence suggesting such is that the land bordered his son William's property and was witnessed by his two sons.

In surveyor's Book No. 1 dated in 1834 is the following:

"State of Tennessee) "By virtue of Entry No. 1000 dated 7 day of March 1834
    Sevier County )

"I have surveyed for Nathaniel King one hundred acres of land in said county lying joining the lands of Philip Roberts Sen

    Notes:

In the 1850 Sevier County, Tennessee Census, there is an Elizabeth King age seventy one living with her son Wyly King age forty nine, and wife Margaret Adair King age forty nine. From the information gathered so far, Elizabeth would have been born about 1779, married about 1795 or early 1796, at age sixteen or seventeen. Her first child, daughter Lavina King was born about 1796, her second child son, Wyley King was born in February of 1798. Elizabeth would have been age thirty nine when her last child, son Andrew Jackson King was born. Elizabeth was about age seventy three when she died in Sevier County, Tennessee.

    Notes:

Shucky moved with the family to Sevier County, Tennessee as early as 1805, soon after the death of his father.

Isaac was one of the first settlers in Gatlinburg. No land records prior to 1824 were found for Isaac Ogle but it is shown by Richard Reagan's early grants that Isaac and William, his brother, entered land adjoining Richard's land on Mill Creek. This ran from Mill Creek down to "the lane" (Reagan Lane) and nearly to the old river road. Later records show this land as belonging to Isaac alone and still later to his son, Elijah Ogle. Isaac also entered land near the road from the Glades, running down to the mouth of Roaring Fork Creek in Gatlinburg. As his sons and daughters became of age, he gave them these lands and he moved to the Banner area north of Gatlinburg.

Isaac and his wife, Susannah, were charter members of the White Oak Flats Baptist Church. The family appears in the Sevier County, Tennessee Federal Census records, 1830 to 1880. Isaac died 2 Sep 1881 according to the Death Register of 1881 found in Sevier County Courthouse.
