    Notes:

Hercules Ogle was of age in 1782, for he was listed as a tithable in that year
(TAX LIST of MONTGOMERY COUNTY, VIRGINIA - 1782, compiled by Mary B. Kegley).

In "Rowan County, North Carolina Cour Minutes 1773-1786", Hurcules Ogle, with
his brothers Thomas and William Ogle, is listed in "Names of Persons who have
not taken the Oath of Allegiance in Captain Cox's District." The date of that
    entry is 1778.

Hercules Ogle volunteered to serve in Captain Jonathan Isom's Company in the
militia of Montgomery County, Virginia for the Revoluntionary War. No date is
given when the company was formed (MILITIA of MONTGOMERY COUNTY, VIRGINIA,
    compiled by Mary B. Kegley).

Hercules Ogle and his two brothers, Thomas Jr. and William Ogle, were listed in
Captain Cox's District, 1778 Tax List of Rowan County, North Carolina.

Hercules Ogle is listed as 1 tithe, no slaves, three horses, seven cattle, and
owning land in the 1782 tax list of Montgomery County, Virginia.

In "Virginia Tax Payers 1782-1785" by Augusta B. Fothergill, Hercules Ogle is
listed as 1 poll in Montgomery County, Virginia.

From "Montgomery County, Virginia - Circa 1790", transcribed and edited by
Netti Shreiner-Yantis, Hercules Ogle is listed as white male over 21 years,
with three horses, on 24 Apr 1790.

In the Montgomery County, Virginia Survey Book "D", Hercules Ogle bought 110
acres of land on Little Reed Island Creek adjacent to Bell on 27 Nov 1789 from
    Thomas Black.

On 24 Apr 1789, Hercules Ogle was living in the Little Reed Island Creek and
Crooked Creek area - Montgomery County, Virginia.

In 1793, an excerpt from Rowan County, North Carolina Deed Book 13, pages
296/97 reveals "This Indenture made this the 30th day of July in the year of
Lord 1793 Between Thomas Ogle of the County of Greyson and State of Virginia of
the one part & Hercules Ogle of the same County and State aforesaid of the
other part..." This deed contains 120 acres of land lying on the waters of
Cabbin Creek on both sides of Gun Smith Path in the county of Rowan and state
of North Carolina. No records of the disposal of the land was found.

In 1797, Thomas Ogle deeded an undetermined number of acres of land to Hercules
and Sarah Ogle on the waters of Little Reed Island Creek in Grayson County,
Virginia (Deed Book "I", p 135). At the same time, Hercules and Sarah Ogle
deeded the same tract of land back to Thomas Ogle in Grayson County, Virginia.

Next we find Hercules bought 237 acres of land "on the north side of Clinch
Mountain on the waters of Puncheon Camp Creek and joining the lines with David
Bunch, John Bunch, Cain Acuff and Long John Acuff" from Joseph Cobb in Grainger
    County, Tennessee.

location to his brother, John Ogle.

Hercules Ogle with his two sons, Hercules Ogle Jr. and Thomas Ogle, are listed
on the tax lists of Grainger County, Tennessee during the period of 1804 to
    1810.

Hercules Ogle and his son, Thomas Ogle, are listed in the 1810 Federal Census
    of Grainger County, Tennessee.

On 20 Feb 1811, Hercules Ogle sold the remaining part of his land to his son
Thomas Ogle and moved to White County, Tennessee.

From THE GODSPEED HISTORIES OF CANNON, COFFEE, DeKALB, WARREN, and WHITE
COUNTIES, The Ben Lomon Press, McMinnville, Tennessee, one of the earliest
settlers in White County, Tennessee is Hercules Ogle during 1800/15.

During 1812 to 1826, Hercules Ogle served as a juror of White County,
Tennessee. Hercules Ogle is listed on several tax lists of White County,

Hercules Ogle and his wife, Sarah, appear in the 1820 Federal Census of White
County, Tennessee. It is believed that Hercules Ogle and his wife, Sarah died
between 1826 and 1830 in White County, Tennessee.
