  1. 1.  James McTeer was born Abt 1765; died 28 Sep 1832/1838, Blount County, Tennessee.

    Notes:

There has been much speculation and considerable Pennsylvania research devoted
to the parentage of this James McTeer; he was not a "second cousin" as Major
McTeer proposed, but probably an unrelated immigrant from the Valley of
    Virginia.

James and Jeanett McTeer lived on Six Mile Creek in Blount County some distance
southwest of the Ellejoy community, and near the present Montvale Springs. In
the published tax lists of 1801 Captain James Scott's Company shows two James
McTeers, one "Senr." who owned 100 acres of land, and the other "Junr." with no
real estate credit. One of these men was Robert's sone James, who was to
receive in 1810 from the State of Tennessee a grant of land on Nine Mile Creek
which described him as "Littel James McTeer". The other was Robert's
son-in-law, Jeanette's husband, the subject of this biography. But the two
were so nearly of an age and of such comparable status that without precise
deeds (not now to be found in Blount County) one cannot safely say which of
    these taxpayers was which.

In the 1830 census of the Western Division of Blount County, James McTeer aged
60-70 years had a household including three males aged 20-30, 15-20, 10-15 and
two females 20-30 and 10-15 years. The approximate deathdate of Jeanette is
inferred on the basis of this census record. On September 28, 1832 James as
the surviving husband conveyed Jeanette's one-forth interest in Robert McTeer's
    Chickasaw Land Warrant.

On 6 August 1838 John Hayes and William McTeer Sr. were appointed
Administrators of the Estate of James McTeer. Bond Was set at $500. On 23
December 1839 William McTeer, Ester McTeer, Mary McTeer, James McTeer and
Robert McTeer receipted for a distribution of $24.75 each. On 26 November 1842
William McTeer, Esther McTeer, Robert McTeer, James McTeer and Mary McTeer
received from John Hayes, Administrator of the Estate of James McTeer deceased,
$4.50 each, being "their partible shares of the personal estate of Andrew
McTeer deceased, one of the legal heirs of the said James McTeer deceased, who
left this country, removed to Texas, and there died as is supposed, leaving no
    legal heir."
