    Notes:

    Daniel Townsend owned the Bleak Hall Plantation which was passed from
    generation to generation for 150 years. It was developed to be one of the most
    productive coton plantations on the Carolina coast.

    Daniel Townsend was a colonel in the army.

    Hephzibah Jenkins Townsend was said to have looked like a beautiful islander ...
    soft black hair that framed her face, deep-set eyes, small regular features,
    and a tender, smiling mouth. She also had traits of being gifted with a
    brilliant mind, a strong will, and a sense of justice.
