On 16 October 1807, Samuel Swearingen III of Buncombe County, North Carolina bought 150 acres of land from Benjamin Parks of Buncombe County, North Carolina. This land was located on "a black walnut on the North Fork of Socoh Creek on the East side of a branch on the side of a mountain above the Mill...".
