DURHAM - Mariam Norwood Boyd Orgain of 3321 Devon Road died Monday, August 9, 1993, at Duke Medical Center.
She was born on May 18, 1920, in Warrenton, the daughter of William Norwood and Elizabeth Burwell Boyd. She was educated at Peace College, Raleigh and Salem College, Winston-Salem. She was a member of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, Warrenton, and St. Stephens Episcopal Church.
She was first married to Wright Tisdale and lived for a number of years in New York City and later in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., where he was vice president and general counsel of Ford Motor Company. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees of Duke University, serving as its chairman for a number of years. After his death, she married Dr. Edward Stewart Orgain of Durham, professor (emeritus) of Medicine and former chief of the
Cardiovascular Service at the Duke University Medical Center.
Surviving are husband, Dr. Orgain; sons, Wright Tisdale Jr. of Greensboro, Norwood Boyd Tisdale of Jacksonville, N.C.
grandchildren; Trescott Wright Tisdale II, Alexander Holland Tisdale, both of Greensboro, Mariam Spotswood Tisdale, Mary Barden Tisdale, William Norwood Boyd Tisdale, all of Jacksonville, N.C.; sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Boyd Thorne of Greensboro, Mrs. Lucy Boyd Meade of Chapel Hill. A brother, Henry Armistead Boyd, preceded her in death many years ago.
Funeral will be at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, Warrenton, Wednesday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Memorial service will be at St. Stephens Episcopal Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Contributions may be made to Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, Warrenton or St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Durham.
Blaylock Funeral Home, Warrenton, is in charge of arrangements.
