James Ray Owenby , 79, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was the son of the late Annie Wakefield Owenby and Dillard Owenby . He was also preceded in death by his wife, Karen Collins Owenby ; and his brother, Stewart Owenby . He retired from the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War, and did several tours in Vietnam. He made walking canes and loved the outdoors. Survivors include his fiancé, Theresa Baggett of Cleveland; two sons: James Alan Owenby and his wife, Cathy, of Huntsville, Ala., and Michael Owenby of Cleveland; two daughters: Dorothy Owenby of Cleveland, Regina Poole and her husband, Tony, of Cleveland; grandchildren: Jason Owenby and his wife, Melanie, of Clarksville, Shari Paulsen and her husband, David, of Las Vegas, Amy Nelson and her husband, Nathan, of Las Vegas, Alanna Owenby of Huntsville, Shanna Bryant, Jenna Owenby , Cody Poole and Casey Poole, all of Cleveland; great-grandchildren: King Owenby , Gavin Hansen, Madison Hansen, Silas Paulsen, special mention, Trevin Baggett, Erik Baggett, Lucas Baggett, Bella Baggett, Alex Wilson, Ashley Grabe and Caleb Hickman; his brother, Duke Owenby and his wife, Joan, of Cleveland; his sisters: Flossie Bettis of Cleveland, Ina Sue Anderson of Atlanta, Judy Phillips of Cleveland, Vickie Ogle and her husband, Cloy, of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews. A Remembrance of Life graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, in Red Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Bettis officiating. Military honors will conclude the service.
