Leola Ruth “Cricket” Halk, age 87, of Maryville, formerly of the Oak City/Seymour area, passed away Monday, October 14, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ora Halk; parents, Arlie and Zula Dixon Free; brothers, Ed, Stephen, Norman, Ray, and Troy Free; and sisters, Marie Lankford and Evelyn Walker. She is survived by her many nieces and nephews including, Kathy and Larry Debuty and Ron and Becky Free; several great and great-great nieces and nephews including her “Little Angel”, Erin Free and Courtney and Sabrina Digby; and best friend, Evelyn Shelhart of Toledo, Ohio. The family would like to thank Velma Burke and the caring staff at Asbury Place for the twelve years they cared for her. Family and friends will gather 11:00 AM Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Holston College Cemetery for the graveside service and interment, Rev. Phillip Marshall officiating.
