ELDER, CURTIS W. - age 89, of Knoxville, passed away suddenly on June 23, 2013. Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Anna Margaret Alley Elder; parents, William H. Elder and Sarah E. Templin Elder; brothers, William Frank Elder and Paul O. Elder; and sister, Joyce Elder Atchley. Survived by daughter, Sara Elder, Arlington, VA; sister, Emma Ruth Catlett; and several nieces and nephews. Curtis served in WWII in England with the Eighth Air Force, 100th Bomb Group. He was retired from the Knoxville News-Sentinel. Curtis was proud of his rural roots and of being a veteran, a husband and father, and a cancer survivor. He could be found daily walking around the track in his neighborhood. He loved working in the yard, caring for his beautiful flowers and feeding the birds. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed clever pranks. He had many lifelong friends whom he deeply appreciated. He was devoted to his wife, whom he cared for at home during her battle with Alzheimer's. Their many trips to New England and Florida were cherished. Friends may call at their convenience Wednesday, June 26, 2013, from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway. Family and friends will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. for graveside services. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association Eastern Tennessee in memory of his wife. Condolences may be offered at www.berryfuneralhome.com.
