Carl Gene Rains, 77, of Athens passed away Friday, January 22, 2016. He was a loving father, grandfather and brother. Carl proudly served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. Carl enjoyed working with his hands and was a Master Carpenter for many years. He was from a different generation and embodied the traits of a true gentleman that always used old fashioned manners. Carl was a cowboy born too late and could often be found reading anything related to the Wild West. Carl was an avid gun collector and a member of the NRA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Rains; parents Carl Henry Rains and Treva Kerr, and Osteen Patterson; daughters, Jennifer Whitaker, and Gena Rains; sister, Brenda Ogle.
Carl is survived by his daughters, Deana Williams and Donna Rains; grandchildren, Cody Williams. Torie Rains and Holden Winton; great-grandchildren, Kaden and Kollin Williams, and Nolan Rains; brothers, Bob (Martha) Hembree, and David (Gina) Kerr; sister, Gretta (Fred) Ogle; special nephews, Bill Ogle, Tommy and Bobby Hembree; step-daughter, Lessia Fagg; step-grandson, Matthew Cooper; and many extended loving family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alder Branch Cemetery Fund or McMahan Calvary Baptist Church in Athens, TN.
Family and friends will leave at 12:30 PM Friday, January 29th in procession from Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville to Alder Branch Cemetery for a graveside service. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #104.
