MCCARTER, LEO R. - age 83 of Philadelphia, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Park West Hospital. Mr. McCarter was a member of New Macedonia Baptist Church. A veteran of the US Army, serving in the Philippines and Japan during WWII. A member of the Huff VFW Post 5150. Retired from Maremont Corporation. Whether he was farming, eating fish at Shoney's or simply visiting with friends, Mr. McCarter truly loved life. He was a long time Tennessee Volunteer fan and an avid Lady Vol supporter. Preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Josie (Ramsey) McCarter; brothers, Hollis, Bruce, James, Mac, Earl and Ikie McCarter; sisters, Cassie Green and Alma Roulette; grandson, Dep. Jason Scott. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nellie Green McCarter, Philadelphia; son and daughter in-law, Donnie and Pam McCarter, Lenoir City; daughters and sons in-law, Linda and Harold Hobbs, Carolyn and Jimmy Scott all of Philadelphia; grandchildren and spouses, Lisa and David Haskins, Melanie and Sonny Lowe, Joy and Adam Foxx and Joni Scott; very special great grandchildren, Miranda, David Lee, Kelsi, Lexi, Addie, Rylee, Ashton and Jayden; sisters and brother in-law, Rintha Brown, Lawrenceburg, VA, Viola and Eli Wilson, Pine Knot, KY; brothers in-law, Verlin "Bud" Green, Loudon and Curt Green, Friendsville; several nieces and nephews along with many special neighbors and friends that meant so much to him. Funeral services 7:00 PM Saturday, McGill-Karnes Chapel. Rev. Buford Albright and Rev. Denny Moore officiating. Family and friends will gather at 1:00 PM Sunday at McGill-Karnes Funeral Home and proceed to Reed Springs Cemetery for a committal service at 2:00 PM. Military rites will be conferred by the American Legion Posts 70, 120 and 256 and VFW Post 5150. The family will receive friends 5:00 - 7:00 PM Saturday prior to the service at McGill-Karnes Funeral Home, Loudon.
