J. Paul Cannon, age 86 of Sevierville, Tennessee, passed away at 7:40 PM Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Fort Sanders-Regional Medical Center. Paul moved from Campbell County to Sevier County with his parents, Kelly A. Cannon and Rose (Violette) Cannon in the 1930’s when Norris Dam was being built. He was the oldest of seven children. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. After the war, he went to work in truck sales and started working for Knoxville Mack Distributors in 1949. He became president of Knoxville Mack in 1965 and retired in 1986 after 37 years with the company. After retirement, he served as a Sevier County Commissioner for a number of years. He was also a Master Mason, member of Masonic Lodge No. 334 and a Shriner. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved to work on his farm raising cattle and growing a large garden every year.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kelly and Rose Cannon; brothers, William and Kelly, Jr.; and his youngest sons, Robert and Michael.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Joy Lee (Reed) Cannon; children, Jim, Mary (Cannon) Stinnett, and John; sister and brothers, Geraldine (Cannon) Gibson, Roy, Poe, and Bob; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Masonic service 7 PM Thursday in Atchley’s Seymour Chapel, followed by funeral service with Rev. Bill Stephens officiating. Interment 11 AM Friday in Boyd’s Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Thursday at Atchley Funeral Home, Seymour, 122 Peacock Court, Seymour, Tennessee, 37865, (865) 577-2807.

Joy Lee and J. Paul Cannon of Sevierville celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on March 1.
Joy Lee Reed and J. Paul Cannon were married March 1, 1947 in the parsonage of the New Hopewell Baptist Church. J.H. Smothers officiated the ceremony. Rose Cannon and Ethel Reed served as witnesses.
The bride’s parents were James and Ethel Reed. The groom’s parents were Kelly and Rose Cannon.
Mr. Cannon is retired as president of Knoxville Mack. Mrs. Cannon is a housewife.
The couple had five children: Jim Cannon, Mary Lee Stinnett, John Cannon, Robert Cannon (deceased) and Michael Richard Cannon (deceased). The have seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
