ROY SYKES, Jr., age 80, of New Market, TN passed away Monday, January 27, 2014. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer of the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam and received the Naval Commendation medal with a Combat “V” for his service. After his military service, he worked as a federal agent for the Department of Energy. He was preceded in death by parents, Roy and Kate Sykes, Sr.; son, Timothy Roy Sykes; brother, James C. Sykes; nephew, Rick Sykes; and brother-in-law, George Robert “Bob” Jones. He is survived by his wife, Bea Sykes; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie “Tedda” and Jim DeBerry; daughter-in-law, Jean Sykes; sister, Thelma Jones; sister-in-law, Alice Sykes; special niece, Pam (R.C.) Woods; grandchildren, Joey Sykes, Tiffany Sykes, and Jonathan DeBerry; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Mason Roy Sykes; special caregiver and friend, Mike Tirnetta; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and many close friends. The family would like to express a special Thank You to the volunteers and staff of Serenity House for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Serenity House Hospice, 1052 Kennedy Circle, Morristown, TN 37814. Funeral services, Thursday, 7:00pm at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Josh Moore officiating. Interment graveside services, Friday, 2:00pm at Hillcrest Cemetery.
