Earl S. Ailey, age 90 of Knoxville, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014 from complications of peripheral neuropathy. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and formerly of Alder Branch Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher and Deacon. Earl was founder of Ailey Oil Company in 1954, a distributor of Esso and later Exxon products; at a time when heating oil was 17 cents a gallon and gasoline was 24 cents and service stations were available for all your auto needs. Earl loved selling wholesale to some thirty dealers at the time. He was later joined by his father, Artie Ailey, who operated a rolling store during the Depression years and his brother, Bob Ailey. Later their sons, Mike, David, Joe and Jeff would join the company. The company sold in 1995. Earl was a veteran of WWII, spending three years island hopping in the South Pacific from Australia, Philippines and New Guinea on the way to Japan. The war ended before they arrived in Japan.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 29 years, Jamie Ruth Kyker Ailey; parents, Artie and Ina Ruth Ailey; brother, Bobby Ailey; and sister, Dorothy Ailey.

Daughter: Ann and husband Frank Faulkner
Step-son: Thomas Blake
Grandchildren: Christy Disney and husband, John, Steven Ailey and wife, Stacie, Stephanie and husband, William "Chip" Wells
Great-grandchildren: Jamie and Kendra Disney, Sydnie and Seth Ailey, and Cade Wells.
Special friend to David Ailey, Cathy Bowyer and her children Rocky-Jay and Sarah-Anne Bowyer.
Several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Beaver Dam Baptist Church, Knoxville Building Fund, Alder Branch Baptist Church, Sevierville or The Neuropathy Association, Inc., 110 W., 40th Street., Suite 1804, New York, NY 10018.
Funeral service 7 PM Tuesday in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Earl officiating. Interment 10 AM Wednesday in Alder Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Tuesday at Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville. (www.atchleyfuneralhome.com)
