    Notes:

    William McGauhey was an early settler of the Boyds Creek area. Mrs. Beulah
    Linn, Sevier County Historican, recalls many years ago seeing a sign indicating
    McGauhey's Fort near this location. Somewhere in this area lies the remains of
    William McGauhey's wife, Elizabeth Laughlin, who died about 1804. The exact
    loction is now lost. The McGauhey familiy moved to Alabama in the early
    1800's..."

    This family lived near McGaughey's Fort on Boyd's Creek in Sevier Co. In the
    1830 census of Sevier Co. Peggy McGaughey aged 60-70 years was listed as head
    of a household which included besides herself two males and two females aged
    20-30 and one female aged 15-20 years.
