WALKER/NOLAND - Researching Thomas James WALKER born ca. 1876 and Junia Maranda NOLAND born 1881. Junia was born and raised in Newport, Cocke County. However, Thomas was born either in Blount, Sevier or Cocke County.(?' ). They were found in the 1910 Cocke County census with their daughter Sallie age 8. Then again in Williamston, SC in the 1920 with their three children Sallie age 18, Porter age 10, and Gustavia age 5. Thomas died in 1921 but we don't know if he had returned to Cocke County or not. We have conflicting reports on this. Does anybody have information on the WALKER family? I have Junia's family back to her grandfather, Wyly NOLAND born l793 but nothing before Thomas on the WALKER side. Any information? The rest of this information came from his granddaughter. Andrew married Mary Faustine Alexander, born1850/52. They had 5 boys: John, Ott, William Jackson (my g-grandpa), Wade, Doc; and 4 girls: Dohn, Ida, and a baby girl that died. William Jackson STINNETT was born 1869. He married Katherine Binkley of Malden, MO. They had 8 children Irene S. Underwood, Mabel S. STEPHENS - After moving to Knoxville thirty years ago with no knowledge of ever having any Tennessee relatives, I recently discovered that one of my ancestors, Bethany STEPHENS, was born in Tennessee around 1819. I have reason to believe that she was the daughter of Nehemiah STEPHENS, who as a teen-ager took his fiddle and headed over the mountains to Tennessee from Georgia around 1796. (Nehemiah's younger brother, who remained in Georgia, was the father of Alexander H. STEPHENS, Vice-President of the Confederacy). I could not locate Nehemiah in Tennessee until the 1830 census in which he is listed as living in the Eastern District of Sevier County. Included in his household were his wife, four sons and two daughters. There was only one other STEPHENS listed in Sevier County in 1830. That was Andrew STEPHENS, who lived eight dwellings down the road from Nehemiah and whom I suspect was his oldest son. These two households were not in the Sevier County census in 1840. I believe that Nehemiah died in the 1830's and shortly thereafter some of his family, including Bethany, moved to Georgia. Since a Sevier County courthouse fire destroyed the early records, I am at a loss as how to obtain any additional information about Nehemiah and his household. If anyone has any knowledge of a STEPHENS family in Sevier County in the early 1800's, or has suggestions as to how I could obtain additional information, I would greatly appreciate hearing from them. Enclosed is my check for the membership dues of the Society. I am so pleased to discover that I do have roots in Tennessee after all! Judy Booth, 9560 Sarasota Dr. Knoxville, TN 37923.
