CALDWELL - I am the ggranddaughter of John W. CALDWELL, b.5-25-1856, m.9-28-1882 Mary Ann Green b.12 1855, d.10-13-1937, both of whom died and are buried in Del Rio, TN. UPSHAW - Researching Mary("Polly") UPSHAW (white), m.Ezekiel Starr (1/4 Cherokee), 29 Feb. 1820, Blount CO. TN. They emigrated as Old Settlers to the Arkansas (Indian) Territory 1833-1834. Ezekiel d. in Washington, DC in 1846, where he is buried in the Congressional Cemetery. Mary UPSHAW Starr may be buried in Honey Hill Cemetery, Adair CO. WILLIAMS - Family tradition says that Solomon WILLIAMS m.Lucinda McMahan, who was the dau. of Eli McMahan, who was the son of Archibald McMahan.I can find no marriage record. They lived in Cocke and Sevier Counties. And tradition states that his parents were from SC, although they may have traveled from VA to SC, then across into NC, and eventually on into TN. Solomon and Lucinda's ch. were: Eli, 1825; James 1827; Wilson 1829; Mary 1833; Sarah 1834; George Washington 1834; James 1839, Dochia 184I; Matilda 1842; McKinny 1847. ESSLINGER/SMITH - Would like proof that Phillip ESSLINGER b.1802 was son of John Adam ESSLINGER and Mary Catherine SMITH. Would like a will for Adam, who probably d. in Greene or Jefferson County in the 1830's. Catherine d. prior to 1822 when Adam married 2d Nancy Woods. I need proof that Catherine's father was Sebastian SMITH from Augusta Co. VA (who served in the VA militia during the Revolutionary War). Sebastian signed as guarantor on Adam and Catherine's marriage certificate, but was not named as her father. Phillip was living in Sevier County by 1850. Sebastian out-lived his daughter Catherine, but we need a date of death and will, if available . THURMAN - I am interested in obtaining any info on the THURMAN family that lived in and around Cades Cove, Blount County and in Knox County in the early 1800's. Jabez, Preston, John, Samuel, William, Barnabus THURMAN, just to name a few. I believe that John THURMAN murdered someone named Wiseman. The THURMANs married into the Tipton and McClanahan families. ESLINGER/ASLINGER/ESSLINGER - I am interested in info on John ESLINGER (b. about 1863-64. d. about 1939-1942). He m. Nancy Cordelia (Stinnett) Large about 1915, but I have heard that he was m. before that. I have no info about his first wife and children he supposedly had with her. There is a Becca ASLINGER buried with a John ASLINGER in Henry Cemetery #2. She died in Feb. 1915, so could this have been his first wife? I appreciate any assistance. MURR - On the MURR family from Cocke County we have very little. Need info on George Henry MURR who d. in the 1930's. His father was Wesley (I think) George had 14 children. SIMMS/WILLIAMS/BAKER - Recently I became a member of SMHS. Living in California, I am having a hard time tracking down my family roots. Most of the info I have is from family members who are getting up in age, and do not remember a lot. I am hoping that you may be able to help me. My Great grandfather's name was Miles Rain-water WILLIAMS, b. Fairgarden, TN, Sevier Co., on either Jan 4, 1873 or Feb. 1872. I don't know who his parents were, but do know that he m. my great grandmother Dicie SIMMS who was b. March 1874 in TN. Dicie's parents were Jim SIMMS and Susie BAKER both b. in TN. I am told that Susie's father was James BAKER. One of my great aunts told me to search for the Joseph BAKER family that owned property in TN that had a railroad that ran through the property. She advised a search in Nashville for this info. I do not know if the property is still owned by the BAKER family, but the family is still receiving money from this railroad co.
