ELLEDGE BOOK - I am writing a book about the English and American ELLEDGEs and know that one and maybe more lines of ELLEDGEs came into Sevier Co. from Rowan, Wilkes, Rutherford, Burke, Buncombe and nearby counties. Also know that one of them, a son of William, son of John ran away from home when a young man, went over the mountains and ended up in Sevier County. He was James, who married Jane Baldwin. I have his ancestors in the book, and from a descendant, Mr. Rainwater, have much info about that line. If there is anyone from that ELLEDGE line, or any other ELLEDGE line of any counties in Tennessee who wants to be sure your line is included in this one and only 30 year researched book with the English as well as hundreds and hundreds of our ELLEDGE kin in America, just contact me and see if I already have your line included. Already have much of the James/Jane Baldwin in line. Just wonder if any of James' descendants will find this. I know some of them, myself and one in particular who lived in Austin, Texas when I did. He gave me the info about his family and told the story of the ELLEDGE ball game after which the losing team, cousins, brothers, uncles etc. decided to drop one second "L" in the name.

Since many of those early ELLEDGEs couldn't even write, much less spell, I am including all the Allege, Allage, Elledge, Eledge, Ellege, Ellidge, Ellige, Elge and any other spelling in this book. All so far I have found to descend from the Joseph, John and Francis of Maryland who came in about 1680. I have the English Elledges of all spellings back to at least the early 1500's when records became available. Spent several months in England several times documenting these ancestors. Hope to hear from some of you. I would like to share info and help clear up some discrepancies. Cynthia Elledge Snider, 13003 Bellevue St., Beltsville, MD 20705 email: cynthia@snider.com
