He married Juliette Loretta MAPLES, daughter of Guilford Russell MAPLES of Sevier County. Don't know how he got title of "Rev." or where he preached. A copy of the SC Republican says a William McELROY was a superintendent of public instruction. Family tradition says he was an educator and Superintendent of Sevier County schools ... but so far I have no evidence that he was indeed involved in the school system .... The death certificate of William Dock McELROY says his father's name was also William and his mother was a Yarberry. I need info on his mother also. They had a son who was a barber in Sevierville and later in Cleveland, OH. His only known sibling was a half-brother, Marion Tipton RATHBONE... later changed-to STANFORD. I have a lot of info on the MAPLES, McMAHANs, and Atchley family, but would very much like to expand on the McELROY side. Other family members married Keener(2), Overday, OVERBEY, Conner, Mount, Zeikle, Bales(2) and Hamilton. My line through son Charles H. FOX/ALLEN/HODGES - Absolum Allen was married to a Duggan (who was a daughter of Redmond McMahan, and granddaughter of Archibald "Redmond" McMahan). Absolum had many children; and some of his children each had many more. His son, Daniel, (my great grandfather) was a Civil War veteran, Survivor of the Sultana disaster, farmer and stock dealer and progenitor of three families (with his two first wives dying). He had many-many children. All of his living children by his third wife, Angelina HODGES (my great grandmother) left TN before and after the turn of the century for CA as young adults, along with my then, very young father, Jack ALLEN FOX, primarily due to a quarrel over the estate after Daniel's death with a greedy half-brother from a prior marriage, who got most of the family assets; but they took the family records-which I have! Allensville is, in fact, under Douglas Lake. Much of the original ALLEN property is now wet. But Absolum ALLEN's (my great great grandfather) house and family cemetery still stands near Jones' Chapel-still with an empty place next to Daniel's grave reserved for my great grandmother. I am missing a lot of info on the FOX side. My grandfather was Hazen R.FOX, who left TN around 1915. He was a son of Carroll Walker FOX and Mary Newcomb. Mary's mother was a Murphy. Also, missing Angelina HODGES ancestors, including her parents. Anyone interested please contact me. Jack Fox, PO Box 4277, Sunriver, OR 97707 email: mountainbenefits@insurer.com.
