POTTER - James POTTER was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He raised his family in Cocke County. His children migrated west, and in the late 1830's he moved to Clay County, MO to be with them. The names of his offspring were: William, Joshua, Wilson, Eldridge,(born 24 Oct. 1791), Nathaniel (26 Dec. 1800), Bentley (16 Oct. 1807), John, Samuel (15 Feb. 1810), and Sarah. I have only one piece of information showing James living with Bentley in Platte Co. MO in 1840. Is there information showing James' family while living in TN? Court houses here were burned during the Civil War as was Cocke County's, but I am hoping through the Society's research that you may have uncovered something that may be of value in my endeavor to link my ancestors together. WRIGHT/REED/LONG/LANE - William REED married Deborah WRIGHT, 1811, Knox Co.; James M. LANE married Elizabeth REED, daughter of William and Sarah; LONG-James and Sarah. All of these folks lived in western Sevier Co. (Trundles Crossroads/Boyd's Creek, and/or Knox Co. (Thorn Grove)). I would like to correspond with others and I am happy to share. BREEDEN/LOVEDAY - William M. BREEDEN born 1839 married 1858 in Sevier County to Darcus Ann LOVEDAY, who was born 1841. Moved to Monroe County then to Whitfield County, GA (Cohutta) in 1880. Is this the William who was a brother to Bryant, Adetha and Emily? Who were William's parents? Were Darcus' mother and father George and Delilah LOVEDAY? HEADRICK - My HEADRICKS came out of Sevier County, but I am stuck somewhere in the early nineteenth century. My great great grandfather was Daniel Alexander HEADRICK (Husband of Mary M. Wilkinson) Children Robert S.; James A.; Susan; Michael R.; Andrew Bascom; Ellen; Lydia; Isaac; Augusta Mary (Nellie?). Daniel Alexander (D. A.) HEADRICK born 1846, was son of Isaac HEADRICK born 1811-1813? and Lydia Lane married 26 March, 1836. THE SMOKY MOUNTAIN RAILROAD - I have a copy of The Gentle Winds of Change: A History of Sevier County, Tennessee 1900-1930. On page 68 the Smoky Mountain Railroad is mentioned. Does anyone have a history of this railroad after 1930? A thesis by William Robert Rogers, A History of Smoky Mountain Railroad, is also mentioned. STRAIN/ROSE - I descend from Rhoda STRAIN, born ca.1808, whose likely brother, Thomas Jefferson STRAIN, was born Cocke Co.ca.1810. Rhoda STRAIN John ROSE ca.1823. They lived in Sangammon County, IL in1830, and Benton County, AR in 1840. John ROSE died in 1844. Rhoda lived in Barry and McDonald Counties, MO until after 1880 with her subsequent husbands, John Carter and _____Wetsel. John ROSE is thought to be the son of Francis ROSE, born ca.1775-84, of Buncombe and Haywood Counties, NC. Some of Francis ROSE's children lived in McMinn and Monroe Counties, TN. According to the flyers sent to us, the deadlines for submitting material for each is November 15, 1996. SMITH/RADER/NEASE/OTTINGER/TROBAUGH - My grandparents, William Monroe and Ellen Luvina (RADER) SMITH were in Cocke County in 1896 when my uncle, Irvin Steele SMITH, was born. Monroe's parents were Adam SMITH and Nancy TROBAUGH. She has a brother James. Ellen's parents were John and Eliza Jane OTTINGER RADER. John's mother's family name was NEASE. WILLIAMS - My father was Wesley Harmon WILLIAMS born in Sevier Co., the son of George Washington WILLIAMS, whose father was Richard Carroll WILLIAMS of Sevier Co. R. C.'s father was John WILLIAMS. PERKINS - Volume 16 of the PERKINS family booklet has been presented to the Society by the compiler/publisher. The booklet includes records, branches and queries pertaining to PERKINS' across the U.S. It is published on an irregular basis, and back issues are available. HILL/LEWIS - Seeking information on my wife's family. She was originally from Knoxville. Her father was Jessie Martin LEWIS (8-2-1887/1-3-1950) and mother, Jeanette Parilea HILL, known as "Nettie" (3-30-1886/4-8-1924). Nettie was raised in Sevier County. COMPTON - I am seeking information on Jeremiah COMPTON, Revolutionary War veteran. He settled in Sevier County ca. 1800, moving from Washington County, TN where he had lived since about 1792. FOX - I am interested in family of John FOX, born 19 Feb. 1754 in NC. He died on his farm in Knox Co. 1 Sept. 1840. Where is he buried? He married Elizabeth Lovin (daughter of Gabriel Lovin) 19 July, 1791 in Wilkes Co. NC. I would swap information on his son Elijah Milton/Bryant FOX to the present. PATTY - I am looking for information on Rev. Joshua PATTY. According to what I have, he died in Sevier County in 1862. Wife was Nancy Walker who died in 1873 in NC. They were parents of 13 children My great great grandfather was Joshua PATTY's third child, Judge John C. PATTY. born in Union Co. SC in 1823. Rev. Joshua PATTY's father, John, was born in Union, Co. JUSTUS - Hoping to locate information on the family tree for the JUSTUS family of Sevierville. My grandfather, Victor JUSTUS, and grandmother Eula Johnson, left Sevierville for Illinois in the 1930's. They went on to have ten children and countless grand and great grand children. Son, James married Charity MURRAY 22 Nov 1797 in, Jefferson Co. probably in what is now Cocke Co. Daughter Lettitia married ca.1820 John COX , probably in Cocke Co. MILLER - I am seeking information on my grandmother Martha MILLER who was living with her parents Salina and Henry in Blount Co. in 1910. She had children Ruth and Harrison. SEVIER - Can anyone provide me with a list of John SEVIER's children? I understand he married Sarah Hawkins and they had 7 children And after her death he married Anne Sherrill and had more children. In three different libraries, I found a biography of John SEVIER which was supposed to have his genealogy as an appendix. In all three cases, the genealogy had been rather crudely removed with a knife or razor blade. I do not understand the mentality of folks who would do such a thing. Betty H. BALES - I need help in identifying my great grandfather's parents. John Alexander BALES was born in Sevier Co. 31 July, 1858. I have had no luck in getting a birth record from Nashville or Sevier Co. that might identify parents, and no one in either location can suggest where to find the information. Thanks for your help. ARCHIBALD McMAHAN MARKER - It has been suggested by several persons (no doubt descendants) that a suitable marker be placed at the grave of Archibald McMAHAN and Elizabeth BIRD who are buried in the old McMAHAN Cemetery on Dunn's Creek. FRAZIER/CROWLEY - My paternal grandmother, Annie Lee FRAZIER, born ca.1890-93, married Carl Allen CROWLEY in 1917 or 1918. The only other name I am aware of is Pleasant CROWLEY, either my great grandfather or great uncle, am not sure. Only other lead is a reference to Centerville, TN. DOBKINS - Thomas B. DOBKINS was born 1781 in E. TN. According to family tradition He married Mary Brickey after her first husband, John McAdams died (date unknown.). Their first child, John, was born 20 Jan.1811. They moved to MO in 1817 with Mary's father, Girrard, and several other Brickeys. Thomas died 1822 in Washington, Co., MO and Mary died in Crawford Co., MO in 1858. Thomas, John and Evan DOBKINS received E.TN Land Grants on Dunn's Creek in Sevier Co. in 1810. Evan possibly was Thomas' father; if not, then it very likely was Reuben DOBKINS in Jefferson Co. I would like to hear from anyone with information about this family. MORGAN -Need proof Elizabeth MORGAN born 1825 NC was daughter of William MORGAN born 11 July, 1784 VA and Mary Lafoy born 1785. Elizabeth married William T. Burns son of George Burns and Elizabeth Raper, October 1844 in Monroe, Co. TN. Elizabeth and parents moved to Monroe Co. after 1830 census. They lived in the Big Creek area. Sue W. ANNA PORTER PUBLIC LIBRARY - The ANNA PORTER PUBLIC LIBRARY in Gatlinburg is looking for a photograph of Anna Wheaton PORTER (1860-1942). We have an album that belonged to her granddaughter, Dorothy Lexau. Anna's photograph may be in the album, but we need to get a positive identification. HURST/BLAIR/ALLEN/YARBERRY - Have traced from 1850 to 1900 in TN my third great grandparents William and Martha YARBERRY. Have been unable to establish a connection with present YARBERRYS in Sevier Co.,. area. We know that one son, Albert, married Malinda HURST, and their son, Albert Jr. married Priscilla BLAIR. They migrated to AR ca.1900-1906. Sr. and Jr. died near Gurdon, Hope, AR area. HAMPTON - I am searching for verification of the HAMPTON family thought to have located in the Big Pigeon Forge/French Broad Rivers area of Cocke Co. John HAMPTON born TN. married Louisa. LONG - John LONG and his family moved to Sevier County in 1799-1800. John was born 18 Nov. 1749 in Lancaster, PA, and he died 18 Jan. 1832 in TN. He married Mary Haynes 3 Aug. 1772 in Bedford Co., VA. Their 15 children, who relocated with them, were all born in Bedford Co. Children of John and Mary are:

George, born 1773, died 17 Jan.1849 McMinn Co. TN, married Nancy Elizabeth Maples on 9 June, 1791 in Bedford Co.; Garrad, born 1774; Lucy, born 1775; John born 1775, married Polly Stevenson in 1805; James, born 22 Nov.1776, married Nancy Berry 4 Mar. 1802. The baby-Viola Barnes Knight; 9. Mary R. PARTON; 10. Dellie (Tiny) PARTON Barnes. The baby was the daughter of Dellie, but was raised by Mary. There was another daughter in the 1900 census, Caralin C. PARTON who is not in this picture. I have no information on her. Mary R. PARTON was my grandmother, but I have very little information on the remaining people. Lee and Niclass left TN with Lee going to PA and the best information I have says Niclass ended up in Idaho.
