ROLLING STORE AT KINZEL SPRINGS - From the late 1930’s until 1945, I lived during the summer months in Kinzel Springs in Blount County. During that time there was a general store in a vehicle which was termed “The Rolling Store”. It made periodic visits to the area. I am seeking documentation on that business. Hopefully pictures of the vehicle. John Herron, P.O. Box 4622, Ocala, FL 34478 Email: jahfla@earthlink.net

MYERS - My husband’s name is Howard William MYERS. We were recently in Cades Cove and took a picture of a grave that read: H. W. MYERS. There was also a grave that read Gladys MYERS. Howard’s mothers name is Gladys. So we took pictures of the two grave stones. I just am not sure which church grave yard they were in, only that it was one of the churches at Cades Cove. We just were wondering if there was any information regarding any of the grave stones, or families buried there. To our knowledge he has no family from that area but all of his grandparents are gone so we have no one to ask. His family grew up in South Philadelphia. Any information about these two grave stones would interest us. Thank You. That was our family’s second visit to your area, our children who are 15 and 19 asked to return there over Disney this year. We all feel your state is beautiful. Thanks for any information you have, and if you don’t have any, thank you anyway and have a great day. (Editor’s Note: In the late 1700’s the Myers family migrated from your section of Pennsylvania to Tennessee, and very well may be part of your husband’s family, Jackie! Thanks for your inquiry).

12th Regiment of Tennessee Militia - I am looking for unit history information on the 12th Regiment of Tennessee Militia in the year 1809 or thereabouts. I see that you have a story about the TN Militia, Blount Co. 1796- 1811 (1978 Vol. IV, #5). My great great grandfather was a Captain in that unit in 1809, and I would like to know more about it. He lived in Blount County during this time. James E. Henderson, 43256 Clifton Terrace, Ashburn, Virginia Email: jimhen@adelphia.net

GREENBRIER CABINS - My family lived in Metcalf Bottoms and attended Greenbrier school. I am searching for the location of the cabin they once lived in before the park started. I do know that there was a train track through there because their home was burnt from a spark of the train, but they rebuilt the home. I would like to have a map of where all the cabins stood and names of all of the families who once lived in the bottoms so that I can go there and visit where my people once lived. Thank you kindly. Susan Smith, 704 Mount Horeb Road, Jefferson City, TN. 37760 Email: OrangeRR@hotmail.com

MILLS - I am researching the MILLS family especially William MILLS born March 11, 1799 and died June 23, 1890 in Collin County, Texas. He married Rebecca Summers September 9, 1819 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. She died about 1832 in Tennessee. He married second to Martha Patsy Routh July 18, 1833 in Knox County, Tennessee the daughter of Edward Routh and Jane Douglas and she was born February 23, 1808 in Sevier County, Tennessee and died September 13, 1896 in Collin County, Texas.

William MILLS resided in Sevier County Tennessee in Paw Paw Hollow till 1860 when he sold everything and moved to Farmersville, Texas where he was a successful rancher till he died in 1890 in Collin County, Texas. He is buried in Millwood Cemetery with his second wife.

There are two William MILLS listed on the 1840 census of Sevier County. On the 1850 Census his family is listed as Milloh not MILLS.

He is also listed there on the 1860 Census.

Children of William MILLS and Rebecca Summers are:
1. James Madison or Matthew MILLS born about 1825 Tennessee died Feb 27, 1864, Christian County, Missouri
2. Mahala MILLS born 1827
3. Mary Anne (Polly) MILLS born January 2, 1831 Sevier County Tennessee died December 11, 1880, Royce City, Collin County, Tennessee.

Children of William MILLS and Martha Routh:
1. John Lockhart MILLS born May 22, 1834 in Paw Paw Hollow, Sevier County Tennessee and died January 26, 1881 in Collin County, Texas
2. Nancy A. MILLS born August 11, 1839 IN Paw Paw Hollow Sevier County, Tennessee died October 13, 1905 Collin County, Texas.
3. William Harrison MILLS born 1840 Paw Paw Hollow Sevier County Tennessee died about 1862.

NOW I KNOW ACCORDING TO THE 1850 CENSUS THERE WERE OTHER CHILDREN WHICH I DON’T BELIEVE MOVED TO TEXAS. 1850 Census of Sevier County, Tennessee, 452B Page 446a.txt shows a Nancy age 13, Lafayette age 9, Naoma age 6, Rody age 3.

In the same area on 389B is a Asa MILLS age 45 and a Mahaly MILLS age 18, however the only Asa I have found is with the MILLS family that were Quakers in Lost Creek and I have researched that whole family and probably from Quaker Records and deeds and so forth have more on them than anyone and can’t find a possible link to my William MILLS.

I know that my William MILLS was a deacon and represented the Paw Paw Baptist church from 1837 to about 1850 in the Baptist Association Meetings and is plainly listed in the minutes of the Paw Paw Baptist Church along with Edward Routh. (This name sometimes spelled Roth and Ruth). William MILLS was an executor of Edward Routh’s will also.

Now this MILLS family DNA matches the MILLS family of Hawkins, Claiborne, Grainger and Hancock Counties also.

I have checked the deeds in Jefferson, and Greene Counties also. In the Jefferson County Deeds is a William MILLS Jr. who buys 80 acres of land on Beaver Creek on April 1, 1820 then February 24, 1830 a William MILLS sold to James MILLS 80 acres on waters of Beaver Creek Witness: Maning Summers and Waitman Summers and appears to be the same land bought in 1820.

On March 10, 1832 I find a deed Henry Lewis and Polly his wife; Charles White and Cesandra his wife; John Mount and Patsey, his wife; Waitman Summers and Hannah his wife; William MILLS Jr. and Thomas F. MILLS heirs at law of William MILLS deceased, all of Jefferson County, State of Tennessee, sold their undivided interest in a tract of land on the South side of Holston River including the mouth of Little Beaver Dam Creek being part of a 400 Acres tract granted by State of North Carolina to Joseph Bullard. Each share 17 acres.

Now Henry Lewis married Mary MILLS January 21, 1820 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. John Mount married Patsy MILLS January 21, 1823 and Charles White married Cassandra MILLS, November 28, 1816 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Cassandra White is listed on the Jefferson County Tennessee 1850 Census as age 56 (1794) and Martha Mount is listed in Jefferson County in 1850 as age 44 (1806) Mary Lewis is listed as age 61 in Jefferson County in 1850 and Virginia as birthplace is crossed out (born 1789) I also have a W. Summers married to Hannah MILLS and have a Manning Summers, a William Summers and a Waitman Summers all in Jefferson County, Tennessee.

Now I am not sure the deeds pertain to my family however, I do know these Summers are related to a John Summers whose deed is dated September 17, 1779 on 640 acres in Powels Valley below Cumberland Gap; and includes an improvement “in the old Indian Town” warrant issued February 3, 1780 by John Carter and surveyed February 25, 1788 for William Hord according to grant file #828 and 1660 for Hawkins County, Tennessee.

I also know that in the 1845, 1846, and 1854 a Curtis MILLS attended the Tennessee Association of Baptist Church Meetings from Sevier County Tennessee for the Sevierville Baptist Church and have information on him and believe in some way they could be related. I am sure Curtis MILLS is probably the son of Curtis MILLS and Ann Lovelady who married Greene County, Tennessee in January 28, 1784.

Now my MILLS, the ones in Hawkins and over there and the ones I have listed in the deeds above fit in no way that I can find nor the Quakers can find as the branch of MILLS that came as Quakers from the Guilford County area of North Carolina to Lost Creek.

I really appreciate any help, pointers or information. I also believe the Adam Fox in Sevier County is related to my Foxes in Shenandoah County Virginia who went to Wilkes County, North Carolina. I also have other lines in Sevier County but am at a standstill on these MILLS. Linda Craig, 487 Haskel Road, Dunkirk, Indiana 47336 Email: LMCraig@insightbb.com
