NICHOLS - I am looking for some information on my Sevier County NICHOLS family. In the old days there was a bunch of NICHOLS in the area so I figure they must have been related in some way - there weren’t that many people there back then. I want to know what the relationship was between the John NICHOLS (m. Tobiatha Holmes – died in 1865) family and the Flayl NICHOLS family. Both families are buried at Shiloh. Thank you very much. I am the great granddaughter of John William (1844-1947) & Eliza Jane Beard Nichols. Martha Erickson, 179 West Maple Avenue, Monsey, NY 10952 – 1733

SUTTON/MADDRON/SHIELDS/BLACK - My grandmother was Nola SUTTON. She was the daughter of Lewis SUTTON and Margaret MADDRON. Lewis was the son of John’ Turkey, John’ SUTTON. Margaret MADDRON was the daughter of Joseph Milton MADDRON (his father Lawson MADDRON). The SHIELDS come into the family where William Rankin BLACK m. Eliza SHIELDS (my ggrandparents). My grandfather was Taft Y. BLACK, one of many children of William and Eliza. I seek information on John BLACK (William Rankin’s father). Nowhere have I been able to locate info on him other than a 1872 marriage list to Mahala Phillips and 1880 census Polk Co. John had a 1st wife (don’t know who) but William Rankin was one born from this marriage . I think there were 3 more brothers, David, Calvin and one other. I can tell you that John BLACK was b.2/l l/181 NC, d.1884 Liberty Hill, Tennga GA. with second wife Mahala. This family (John BLACK) with the SHIELDS/MADDRON/SUTTONs all traveled back then in that big circle of TN., GA., NC working the fields or what they called sharecropping. I was also told that John BLACK was a Deacon of a church. If anyone has come across info connected with any of these persons please share it with me. Karen Haygood, 583 Green Ridge Rd. FARR - My great-great grandfather Samuel FARR left Blount County around 1856 and moved to Webster County, Missouri. I believe my ggGrandpa Sam’s father to have been Samuel FARR, son of Ephraim FARR. This last Samuel was killed by Indians in Sumner County in 1793 before his child Samuel was born. I am interested in learning who the first FARR to own land in Blount County was. I have often wondered if Margaret, the widow of Ephraim, may have moved to Blount County and helped raise the fatherless baby Samuel. This is pure speculation. The FARRs owned land on or in the vicinity of Baker Creek. Does anybody know who bought it? Frank Farr, P.O. Box 839, Jamestown, NM 87347. Email: frank_farr@usa.net

LUNDY - Seek info about the LUNDYs and when they came to TN. One of my grandfathers, James Hickam Lunday/LUNDY was born about 1801 in VA and then eventually married around 1829 in Carroll Co. IN. I am trying to write a book and this is my worst snag. Thanks. Kay Lundy Blount, 385 Eagle Drive, Forsyth, Mo 65653 Email: kay.myers@mchsi.com

HOUK/TARWATER - Correction: In the Winter 2004 edition of the Journal I said that my great grandmother was Lucinda Price. She was actually Lucinda Baker, who married James Buford HOUK on March 15, 1864, in Knoxville. My apologies. Dennis Hancock, 710 Radford Place, Knoxville, TN 37917. Email: taldad@yahoo.com

McPHERSON - I am greatly interested in any information on the McPHERSON family as my husband is a descendant of Drury McPHERSON, whose parentage is as of this time unknown. Drury was born about 1810 and died in 1865 in Blount County, Alabama. His wife was Nancy? Known children are Joel Pinkney, Asariah, Nancy, Sarah Adaline, Bartholomew, Martha, James Ambers and Rebecca. My research indicates that this family was related in some way to the Whaley family.
