MYERS - I am researching the MYERS family of Sevier County. Looking for Riley MYERS and wife Sarah (maiden name unknown) and their children. One daughter is Lydia MYERS who married a William Ephriam James and they settled in Alcorn County, MS. Riley was a soldier in the Civil War along with his son-in-law W. E. James. John METCALF born 1820 in NC, married Mahala "Haley" HENSLEY/Hansley born 1826 in TN. Their children include William, Joseph, James Riley, Alan, Elizabeth, Selina Jane, Sarah, Amanda. Both William and James Riley lived in the area known as Metcalf Bottoms. James Riley (my gg grandfather) born 1850, died 1927, married Susan Ann 'Susie' Watson on Jan 4, 1885. She was born Apr 11, 1866, and died Mar 12,1947. Their children are listed as Mary Jane, John R., Davis C. 'Dave', Earnest Elmer, Frank Richard, and Walter. Their son, John R. is my great grandfather. He was born April 26, 1892 and died in late 1981. He married Queenie B. WHITTED July 10, 1910. They had 9 children. One child, Daniel, died as an infant. One of their daughters, Verna Rebecca, born 1917 (est), married Charles ALLISON. Their children include Ruth, Wilma, Iva, Don, Glenn, Rebecca and Deborah. Iva is my mother. She married Billy H. He was married twice to sisters Nancy Jane Dyer and Martha Dyer. A daughter was Nancy Cordelia (Cordia) CAREY who married Albert Leonidis MORRIS. Another daughter was Amanda Coleman CAREY who married Noah OGLE. TAYLOR - Looking for info on a flood in the late 1880's to mid 1890's. A circuit preacher by the name of Daniel TAYLOR drowned in the flood and only his horse and bible were found. CLABOUGH - Seeking info on my grandmother who may have been born to a single mother. She was born 12 May 1912. Her name was Hattie Mae (CLABOUGH? though we're not sure). She was adopted by Rev. King and wife, to my knowledge. My mother says she was raised in Cades Cove all of her young life. She married my grand-father, Archibald Nelson Ogle. Their first son was born 1928-1930. PAW PAW HOLLOW - I am searching for the location of PAW PAW HOLLOW in Sevier County. My direct ancestor, Joseph Routh, moved to Jefferson County in 1792. His son Edward Routh and wife Jane Douglass lived in or near PAW PAW HOLLOW Baptist Church. Their daughter Rhoda Routh married her cousin, Alexander Douglass, had a dozen children and died there in 1883 at the age of 80. Is it possible that PAW PAW HOLLOW is located near the border with Jefferson County? It may be under the waters of Douglas Lake. WILSON/WILLSON/JOHNSTON/JOHNSON - Looking for info on my gggg grandparents Benjamin JOHNSTON/JOHNSON and Theodocia WILSON/WILLSON JOHNSTON/JOHNSON. Benjamin died in Sevier County 4 Jan. 1804. He was born 12 Jun. 1773 in Montgomery County, VA. He married Theodocia 24 Sept 1794 in Montgomery County. She was born 15 Nov. 1773 in Montgomery County. She died ca. 1845/47 Campbell County, TN. She was married a 2nd time to Adonijah Thomas. Theodocia's parents are believed to have been Capt. Samuel WILSON/WILLSON and Rebecca Burk. Their son, my ggg grandfather, was Benjamin Franklin JOHNSON born 14 Oct 1803 in Sevier County. He married Martha Muse Oliver 12 Nov 1826 in Anderson County, TN. In Nov. of 1787 the first Benjamin dropped the T from his last name after executing the power of attorney, supposedly as they were leaving VA for TN. Any help is greatly appreciated. SLAUGHTER - I would like any info on my gggg grandfather William SLAUGHTER. My gg grandfather William Henry King in 1909 wrote that his g-father ..."William SLAUGHTER was accidentally killed by another man while doing military service in the state". In reference to his mother's grandfather he wrote, "Her Grand Father Jacob SLAUGHTER was a Soldier in the revolutionary war and was drawing pension in 1840 and was 84 years old at that time." He married Rebecca Montgomery, also a native of Ireland. Their Children were: Frances MARSHALL Rambo, born 1797 in PA and died in Sevier County in 1873; Mary MARSHALL Scruggs, born 1799 in PA, and was living in Sevier County in 1870; Robert MARSHALL was born in 1800 and died in Sevier County in 1844; John MARSHALL was born in 1802 in Sevier County and died in 1883 in Moniteau County, MO; William MARSHALL was born around 1803 in Sevier County and died about 1844 in Cole County, MO. JAIL BREAK - I am trying to find info on the Fall, 1862 Waynesville JAIL BREAK in which conscripts were freed. In the ensuing chase Sheriff Noland was killed. Soldiers of the 62nd and 69th North Carolina Infantry eventually chased down the outlaws. This occurred back and forth between Cocke County and Haywood County around Utah and Noland Mountains. I am looking for details, particularity names of the conscripts and outlaws. The Cocke County sites would be around Cosby Creek.
