PRUITT - My mother's name is Ola Mae PRUITT, daughter of William Jasper PRUITT, son of Hale PRUITT, who according to the book IN THE SHADOW OF THE SMOKIES, is buried in the DuPont-Reagan Cemetery. I find Hale in the 1870 Sevier County Census but no earlier. His death certificate says that his father was J.W. Pruette and his mother was Jean Cagle, but I can't find any information in an earlier census on a J.W. PRUITT. Does anyone have any information on Hale's parents and siblings? I would appreciate any information or leads you might provide. Gregory T.Bowers, 1214 Old Lascassas Pike, Apt. E. 13, Murfreesboro, TN 37130 (615-849-3473)

MARTIN/DUGGAN - My gg grandfather, William MARTIN, and his wife, Margaret Matilda DUGGAN, lived in Sevier County during the 1800-1830 time period. Six of their eight children were born in TN, probably in Sevier County., between 1806 and 1828. I have no record of the birth, marriage or death of William MARTIN. The only information I have regarding Margaret Matilda DUGGAN is that she was born in Ireland and immigrated to America when she was about 12 years old. The 1830 Sevier census shows three DUGGAAN families living near the William MARTIN family. -p#93 Robert DUGGAN-age 60-70; p#93 Hugh DUGGAN-age 40-50; p#112 Daniel DUGGAN-age 30-40; p#117 William MARTIN-age 40-50, and wife Margaret Matilda DUGGAN-age 40-50 .... This census record implies that both William and Margaret M. were born in the 1780-1790 time period. It seems logical that Margaret M. DUGGAN was related to-perhaps a sister of- Robert, Hugh and Daniel DUGGAN. Would appreciate any information regarding this family and will share information which I have. The children of William and M. M. MARTIN were: Nancy, 1806-1883, wife of Joseph Shrader of Sevier County; Ann, 1814-1852, wife of Thomas Webb of Jefferson County: Robert, 1816-?; Carroll, 1822-1905, Sevier County; William, 1816/1820-1884, my grandfather, married Rebecca Louisa Jenkins in Haywood County, North Carolina, in 1840; Adaline, 1828-?, an unmarried woman; Elizabeth; Harold. Robert E. Martin, 1608 University Dr. Arlington, TX 76013-1777 email: remartin@fastlane.net.

RENO/RENEAU - The family of John RENO, which included his wife, Narcissa RENEAU, is found in the Jefferson County area in 1830 and 1840. John, b. Feb. 1, 1773, in either VA or Washington Co. PA, and Narcissa were m. in Jefferson County on Sept. 21, 1801. He was the son of John RENO who served as county sheriff in 1796, and moved to Hamilton County, and then to Summerville, GA. Narcissa was b.1782-1792 and is the daughter of Thomas RENEAU and his wife, Jane Ramsey, who later moved to Harrison Co. IN around 1830. Narcissa probably died between 1840-1850 and John RENO moved to Jackson Co. IN with his oldest daughter, Jane RENO Edmunds, wife of John P. Edmunds, Jr. Narcissa was not listed in this household, so it is assumed that she died prior to 1850. By 1860 the John Edmunds Jr. family is found in Davies Co. IN with no one else in their family. My attempt to find the death date of John RENO/RENEAU has resulted in a dead end, so I am hoping for help from anyone who can help me. Valerie Hamilton, P. O. Box 220, Los Altos, CA 94023

SMITH - I am trying to research information on my Grandmother's family. I was told that my Grandmother was born in Sevier County, TN. Her name was Jessie Clarice SMITH, b. January, 1896. She was a white female. I was also told that her father was David Crockett SMITH and her mother's name was Martha Caldonia SMITH. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Col. William R. BIRD - My gr-gr-gr--grandfather, Andy BIRD (Byrd) and his family are found in the 1850 Sevier County Census. He later moved to the Pickett County area, then to Clinton Co. KY where he died in 1906. He was born in 1809. Do you know anything about his family? Steve Byrd. 424 Shaker Mill Bend, Bowling Green, KY 42103 email: Scddbyrd@aol.com.

SELLERS/SELLARS - My dad, Arthur C. SELLERS, changed spelling of name during WW II. His father, David SELLARS, abandoned family and moved to NC; left children Olla May, Paris City, Lavada, Orville and Arthur. (Orville died at Alcoa in 1941). David's father was Watson SELLARS, I believe. I know nothing of his brothers and sisters or parents., or where he came from, but believe from around Bryson City, NC. I have been told he was born 6-21-1865 and died 8-19-1941, and was married to Minty or Mintey (don't know if that's a first or last name) and they had 8 children David, Hettie, Gracey, Jennie, Frank, Bertha, Cora Ethel, Nancy Evelyn. I would like to talk to anyone with information on the SELLARS roots, gene, family tree. Would be grateful. Victor Sellers, 4901 N. W. Valley View, Rd #51, Blue Springs, MO 64015 email: VSeIVSel@aol-com.

"White Caps" Book - I have tried to find the "White Caps" book for some time to no avail. It is my understanding that the book tells about the murder of my Great grandfather, William Loveday, who is buried at Walnut Grove. Can anyone tell me where I might purchase a copy of the book? I know my grandfather was Charles Robert Loveday, and his dad, who was killed, was William and he was married to a Hattie Snapp. Thanks for any help. Regina Worsham Little 101 Surry Trail, Peachtree City, GA 30269 email: MaMawJL@aol-com.

ALEXANDER/CUTSHALL/DICKSON/DIXON/HODGE/HODGES/INGLE/TEAGUE/TEGE - My oldest TEGE/TEAGUE is Wallace "Joshaw a" TEGE b. about 1819 in NC. He first m. Martha Dean who had previously been married to an ALEXANDER. He adopted the ALEXANDER children and changed their names to TEAGUE. The ch. were: l. William Marion b.16 Oct 1845, SC d. Mar 15, 1930. b. Fairview Cem. near Afton, TN; 2. James Albert b.7 Dec 1847, Spartanburg, SC, d 17 Apr 1901, b. Greeneville, Greene Co. TN; 3. John Manning (probably called Jack, changed to John Ezell ALEXANDER) b.1848, Woodruff, SC d.19 Jul 1912, b. Old Mill Cem. Laurens Co. SC. Martha and Wallace TEAGUE had children: l. George b.1850, SC; 2. Mary b.1852, m. Couch; 3. Lethia b.1854. Wallace TEAGUE married a second wife on 10 Jun 1858, in Greene Co. TN. She was Rebecca DICKSON CUTSHALL, the widow of John CUTSHALL, Jr. Her p. were David and Elizabeth DICKSON, who are in the 1850 Greene Co. census. Rebecca's children by her first marriage were: David, William and Henry CUTSHALL. Upon the death of their father the children were given over to the guardianship of their grandfather, David DICKSON, and raised by the grandparents. David, Elizabeth and the children were in Blount Co. in 1860 and 1870.

The children of Wallace "Joshawa" and Rebecca TEAGUE were: l. Harrison b.26 Nov 1863, d.16 Nov. 1891, in Sevier Co. He m. Sallie INGLE 31 May 1880 in Sevier Co.; 2. Lincoln b.14 Feb 1871 d-2 Dec 1925 in Sevier Co. He m. Fanny Jane Knight 13 Jun 1891 in Sevier Co.; 3. Houston b.26 Nov 1866, d.8 July 1933, Sevier Co. He m. Celia INGLE 26 Oct 1884; 4. Martha b. Mar 1870 d. unknown. m-G. W. HODGES in Sevier Co. 29 Dec 1887; 5. Nancy Florence b.12 Oct 1871/4, d.1 Apr 1939 in Tazewell, TN. m. John INGLE 11 Mar 1888.

Sallie, Celia, and John INGLE were all from the same INGLE family. Sallie and Celia were daughters of John Sr. and Celia/Caroline INGLE. John was the son of Sarah INGLE, sister to Sallie and Celia. John's father was said to have been a HODGE/S. Wallace and Rebecca TEAGUE are in the Greene Co. Census of 1870. Rebecca is listed with all the children in Sevier Co. in 1880 and listed as a widow. Harrison is listed as head of household.

I have been unable to find a will or estate settlement etc. in either Greene or Sevier Co. for Wallace/Joshua TEAGUE or for any spelling variation. It is said that Nancy Florence TEAGUE INGLE- was one-half Cherokee. I have been unable to prove or deny this fact.

Supposedly the ALEXANDER father was abusive and his wife remarried to the TEAGUE in the Spartanburg area. I would like to learn if Joshua died in Greene or Sevier Co. and when. I have all the present TEAGUE information on most of the children's families. I am glad to share any information I have. Any help on this line would be greatly appreciated. . KEELER/Others - Have been researching my Reynolds family in KY and have a KEELER b. in Sevier CO. TN who m. a brother to my g gf. Margaret Ann KEELER d/o George KEELER and Elizabeth (Lizza) V. McClure m. Henry Singleton Reynolds in Pulaski Co. KY on 10 June, 1861..., Was George a son of Joseph KEELER and Catherine Fox? George and Elizabeth were m. and Margaret Ann was eight in the 1850 Sevier Co. census. Therefore, the record of their marriage would have been destroyed in the courthouse fire of 1856. ....George's wife was Elizabeth V. McClure (from death certificate of Margaret Ann) and probably the daughter of Robert and Rebecca McClure. The two families relocated to Pulaski Co. KY between 1850-1860. In the 1860 census Robert, son William, and George were in adjoining dwellings .... according to the Mormon Church records Rebecca Mathews m. Robert McClure in Washington Co. TN 15 Sept. 1818. I have the McClure history but do not have anything on Mathews. It appears that James M. KEELER s/o Joseph also came to KY. He m. Isaphena Reynolds d/o Elizabeth sister of Henry who m. Mary Ann. They m. in Pulaski Co. on 25 Oct. 1875. In the 1880 census Isaphena was back home with her parents. James M. was in the Sevier Co. census, Dwelling 156. He was in the household of his nephew, Samuel M. Frame, probably the s/o John and Matilda KEELER Frame. Elizabeth KEELER Duggan was in Dwelling 158. Any insight anyone can give would be appreciated.
