CLINKENBEARD In 1773, at the age of 18, my fourth great-grandfather, John CLINKENBEARD (1755-1837), left home in Shepherdstown, Berkely Co. VA, and made his way to the Watauga Association in northeast TN where he lived for the next four years. He served from there and later from Berkely Co. VA as a private soldier in several Revolutionary War campaigns. He was one of the signers, in 1776, of the Watauga Association's petition to North Carolina for annexation. In 1778 John returned to Shepherdstown where on about 1779 he married Mary Lucas (1763-c1829). The couple moved in about 1781 to the vicinity of Knoxville and some time later, on 8 May 1792, John purchased from Andrew Evans for L74 a 37 acre tract of land in Greene Co. (now Sevier, or possibly Jefferson Co.). There he established a farm and the couple raised twelve children there. In 1816 the couple sold the farm and moved to Bourbon Co. KY. Does anyone have records disclosing the birth dates of John and Mary's children, who were William, John, Elizabeth, Robert, Edward, Phebe, Jonathan, Joseph, Mary "Polly", Mercie "Massie", Isaac and Lucas? Also, are there any records relating to the CLINKENBEARD family in northeast TN? I would be most grateful to hear from anyone in this regard. John E.
