Cowden I would like to know the parents of "Lynn" Leonard C. Cowden, Sr., born circa 1797 South Carolina - died circa 1870/80 Benton County, Arkansas. He resided with his wives and children in Sevier County, Tennessee at least from 1830-1856. He was twice married; his first wife may have been a Mayberry/Mabry, but this is not proven (going by his first son's name). She died about 1844/45 while they lived in Sevier County. I have not been able to locate a gravesite for her. Their children were: Wilburn Mayberry Cowden (1823- ?) married Mary Catlett; Jane "Jennie" Cowden married "Lofty" Loftus Henry Catlett; possibly Rebecca Cowden (c. 1828/31-?) may have married Robert Henry; Mary Cowden (c. 1829-?) may have married John White; Elizabeth "Lizzie" Cowden (c. 1832-?) may have married a Roberts; Martha Cowden (C. 1835-?) may have married Archibald Moore; Sarah C. Cowden (19/21 June 1838-?); James Cowden (19 MAy 1840-?) married Matilda C. Henry; Catherine Cowden (30 March 1842-?) may have married a White or Archibald Moore, or both; Thomas Cowden (16 Aug 1844-c. 1861/65) reportedly never came home from the Civil War... "Lynn" Leonard C. Cowden, Sr. married circa 1846 Mary Catherine Thomas (c. 1815 Tennessee- 1870 Benton County, Arkansas). She was supposedly a half blood Cherokee, though I have been unable to trace her family. Their children were: Hannah Cowden (7 March 1847 Sevier Co., TN - Feb 1870 Benton Co., Arkansas), unmarried; Malinda Cowden (3 June 1849-?) married "Big John" L. Williams; Lucinda Cowden (9 Oct 1851 Sevier Co., TN - 12 Jan 1908 Pontotoc CO., OK) married James Harvey Williams; "Linn" Leonard C. Cowden, Jr. (18 May 1855 Sevier Co., TN - 29 April 1903 Erath Co., TX) married Brunette Biggs; Henry Cowden (23 April 1858/9 Benton Co., Arkansas - 1 March 1891 Erath Co., TX) married Clarissa Clementine Williams. Any information about these familes or any other Cowden and Thomas families of Sevier Co., or surrounding area would be greatly appreciated. Mrs. Lisa L. Lawson Hale, 4207 South County Road 1135, Midland, TX 79706.
