WHALEY - My gggrandfather was John Lewis WHALEY b. 1849 in Tennessee, d. 1940. He married Darlene Addie Atchinson in Hardeman County, TN in September 1869. In 1900 John is listed on the census in Jackson County, Arkansas. Addle died in 1899. John and Addle had the following children: Alex, Zelpha, John Pinkney, Minnie, M,L.V., Joe, Ethel, Rosa May and William. In 1901, John married Jennie Dowell in Jackson County, AR. They had the following children: Kenneth, Luther and Geneva. John and Jennie are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Morn, Lee County, Arkansas. Addie is buried in Gracelawn Cemetery, Tuckerman, Jackson County, Arkansas. I think John Lewis' parents might be John N. WHALEY and Susan Jane Taylor who married about 1842. On several censuses it shows John Lewis' father to be born in North Carolina and his mother to be born in Tennessee. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated on finding ancestors of John Lewis WHALEY. Judy Jernigan. 13719 Hwy 140 N, Lepanto, AR 72354 Email: jljernigan@eritter.net
