Notes

Benjamin was married to Pheba Proffitt by P. H. Shults, Justice of the Peace. In 1870, Ben and family were living in District # 12, Cocke County, Tennessee on the farm of Joseph Webb, age 79, on Upper Cosby which was close to Sevier County and Dunn's Creek. They had two children at this time, Plesant (Pless) born in 1866 and Mary Jane, born in 1868. By 1880 Ben had moved back Sevier County, Tennessee, in the Rocky Flats area near Shults Grove and was farming the Berry Williams farm. By 1900 Ben, Pheba and Mary Jane were living in Newport, Tennessee in a rented house. In 1995, Ben was a day laborer, Mary Jane had been married and divorced and was living with them with her three children, Pless, Ben, and Henry. Around 1910 Ben and Pheba moved to Knoxville and lived there until they died. Ben was listed as a merchant on his death certificate.

Buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
