Notes

David enlisted in the Union Army, 9th Tennessee Cavalry, on 11 October 1863 and was listed as a deserter on 1 December 1863. He returned on March 23, 1865, under the president's proclamation of amnesty for deserters. In 1892 he made application for the removal of the charge of desertion and for an honorable discharge. It was denied on 9 March 1892.

Buried in McMahan Chapel Cemetery (David Stinnett Family Cemetery) of which he owned the land.

SMHS lists birth as 29 November 1846.
