He received his medical training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas and served in the base hospital there until 1917. He was then sent to Long Island, New York and left the USA in June of 1917, to serve in France. He returned after the death of his father to help his family.
George worked for Champion Papers for a time and then worked at Sayles Bleacheries as an electrician. Later he found a job with the U. S. Naval Gun Factory in Washington, DC. He lived with his family in Alexandria, Virginia until his death.
He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
