The Hartsell family, of Swiss-German origin, has been in Tennessee since 1785. In 1838, Isaac Hartsell moved most of his family from near Jonesborough to the Cosby area of Cocke County, Tennessee. The family stayed mostly in Cocke County, Tennessee until Ceborn broke the mold by going courting across the county line into the Jones Cove are of Sevier County, Tennessee.
